i just find the kicks and punches personally not that impactful. I like the audio sure but like after playing a lot of it with the slow mo and the animation it feels awkward

but like i wish the flail actually penetrated the demon
Like when u hit a squishy bit, the flail should get grappled on to it
If it was a sword, sure its more believable because most games prefer slashing. But bashing is completely different
When doom guy kicks, my foot should at least try to dig into the demon or at least they should be the one knocked back not both of us

It might end up being my personal GOTY, but I don't see it being GOTY. It's too old school even with the added melee, it feels like an old school beat'em up or even hack-and-slash that got blended with FPS.

Like i disagree with the melee design. I think for a feature many were excited for, i found it disappointing
i think some of the map designs are too repetitive with the 3 points you have to go fight. i think a lot of the secrets are bad and not even really secrets. you just walk in a room sometimes. the dragon combat is just weird and dumb. dodge to break a shield? i think the story is generic and i like the past games ways of passively telling the stories more. it needs a horde mode. needs a bunch of skins you can unlock. but overall i really love it and think it's maybe the most fun doom ever.

A real melee weapon in a doom game wouldnt be on cool down or need ammo. This would be a basic weapon u would use when ammo isnt an option and diff class of melee weapon would be so fun to dig into and different glory kills to explore
i think doom eternal was too complex for some poeple. i heard a lot of complaining when that came out too, how differnent it was from 2016. i have a friend who is a massive doom fan, and he never got halfway through eternal. it just was too much for him. (he has very slow thumbs) 🙂

That is something they should consider. Huge hammer would be cool, especially since they seem to be all about smashing and bashing. They could make it where when you activate you hold the hammer for that duration or something then at the end throw it. Sounds like an ultimate ability or something lol

also idk if it's just me, but i kinda wish they moved the upgrade currency more towards the gameplay side rather than the exploring side. I love the exploring, i do, but I'm already finding it a bit frustrating on my second playthrough running around looking for gold and rubies to upgrade. But, I don't have any suggestions lol, maybe give more gold per ingot or something.
one thing i learned to beat that battle was to never be predictable, i kept randomly dashing a lot which saved me a bunch from getting damage

Because then beating the game on nightmare isn't really cool if you can adjust the difficulty of it. There is a concept of psychological reward that might be obstructed by the possibility to heavily influence the difficulty of the game.

If you look at the standard nightmare setting, you will see the parry window for example is very generous, so the question a player would ask himself, is this real peak difficulty or it's just complacency

Ye i was thinking that too. I played the game normally on normal speed. Then when i went back for secrets i did 150%. The dialogue sounds weird indeed when it's fast. It's not really anything too troubling but if its your first playthrough then it might be annoying if you hear fast dialogue if you for example want to understand everything and such

I literally got into doom because i saw the glory kills, most of my montages on yt consist of glory kills, and even i think the glory kills on tda that they have rn are good enough. Besides its still cool to literally punch a demon so hard his limb (or limbs) fly off, cmon

And I can assure you if the game had two more difficulty levels, one with max sliders and one in the middle, people would complain less. If it was a feature that you can activate by console, I can even more assure you no one would complain
you also need to open settings and click the sliders menu so its not exactly forced on you

even you have to admit that aside from the occasional very not frequent saw to the head execution, doing this is spartas over and over in a game where the shredder, accelerator, far more cooler and varied demons, and the shield exist is a huge missed opportunity
i wanted them to use the melee weapons for the glory hits, makes more sense to use the melee weapons rather than just his fist to make them explode
and tbh I'd like them to have glory kills to some extent, like for cutscenes or heavier enemies
executions are suitable for fodder and some heavy demons

Doom 2016 just had a bunch of contrast and reflections, nothing Eternal/TDA couldn't achieve in their respective engines but then visibility becomes a real hindrance. You can't have high octane, engaging gameplay if you're always grounded in semi-realism and favor muted visuals over everything else, readability needs to be a priority.

Unfortunately it matters because reviewers are bias. I think having at least a small background in a variety of games would benefit them. If they aren't a real gamer they probably shouldn't be reviewing games. Whenever a review seems horrible, it's either the reviewer actually didn't play it or they're not a real gamer. Maybe played a few games. You need to be a little more versatile than that. That's my view on it anyway.

Breakable walls to be more specific, they usually have a round symbol on them. Lights up when pushing the button. For the hooks you need to start being more observant and looking up. Easy to miss at times.

I kind of wish it was even more like Skyrim given that it has a compass and all the collectibles would show up on the hud. Might just take away from the "secrets" or make them too easy to find. They are on the map though so is it really that different.

I have 2 things that annoys me regarding the music: 1) the dynamic music module still does silly things: missing the action completely, putting in heavy music where no one is around, going back to ambiance while I am fighting demons (guess that's the curse of a huge arena, You enter it, nobody is around yet, but You hear the music) 2) The mixing of the music is still objectively bad: the sounds of the game and the music are occupying the same frequencies on many layers and the music just doesn't cut through. I still need to lower everything else waaaay too much

The only reason it doesn't look 'better' than 2016 like someone pointed above is because the game isn't deliberately outright black in most areas. You could achieve the same low contrast look in Eternal with a bunch of puddles, lens flares and only a few highlights.
