TDA Hell Priests are unrelated to the Deags. They just use the same title and may have the same position.

The Deag Priests enjoy an unnatural lifespan thanks to their allegiance to the Khan. Hell likely supplies them with Essence to extend their lives or something.

Calling them "Hell Priests" was a dumb move. The Deag are allegiant to the Maykrs first more than anything.

Calling them Hell Priests make them sound like they're from Hell! Just call them Deag Priests.

I had the idea like a week ago to make a Doom game that's like actually slow and more gritty, with some of those more heavy or bulky demon concept designs from the artbook, something in line with Scorn but not exactly.

Glory kills are still in the game if you jump to melee kill most demons. They were deemphasized because of the sheer amount of demons in the game at any given time. It made the game slower. It's not a downgrade, it was a necessary concession.

I just realized, embarrassing kind of, but the sarcophagus is what was used to summon the slayer back from hell. The same sarcophagus he gets sealed in later. It seems to me that ritual might have bound him to the sarcophagus in a way. Making it pretty much the only reliable means of containing him.

It's not really a matter of disagreement. They had glory kills in the game early in development. And playtesting showed it made the game prohibitively slow, so they had to deemphasize them. It made this formula less fun.

The massive enemy counts simply made glory killing more annoying.

The issue was, the time it took to perform a glory kill and then do another one to an adjacent staggered enemy took too long and didn't let you take them out in time as well. The slowdown is a global gamespeed slow motion, which doesn't affect the timing on other staggered demons, allowing you to kill them in quick succession, and not run out of time.

They were also modeling the quick kill system on the scene in 300 where Leonidas is killing many enemies in rapid succession, and they used slow mo stylishly to emphasize the hits, which has the same effect in this game. Watch that scene and you'll see what they were going for.

Either way, they've said they're gonna add a setting to let you turn off the slow mo eventually.

do pandemonium first, and on the level you think are difficult maybe run them in nightmare a couple times when you get there in UN to be safe

I'll also reiterate, glory kills are still possible in this game. They are relegated to killing a demon from above with a melee strike from the front or from behind. You can do that by jumping when you strike them. Sometimes it doesn't register correctly, but most of the time, you can land one.
