I personally don't like the hoarding of wealth and lack of care towards their employees. We see this implemented so well regarding the UAC. We don't like how the UAC viewed human life as a stepping stone for better things, using humans and casting them away. We see this in real corporations as well. It's the subtle things that make it good.

Overall we've been spoiled for choice when it comes to 'dark and serious' Doom games. One of the things I'm not sure about in TDA is the tone they're going for and the overall presentation being basically one-note in atmosphere and color balance. I didn't care much for Doom 3 or 2016's monotony and having yet another game with 3 main color schemes is really going to get tiresome.

I'm just hoping there's no forcing the player to stand around like 2016. I think they've learned their lesson on that front. Unbroken first person perspective is cool and all, but there's a setting, place and time for it. Eternal ditching that cinematographic detail and allowing the world to breathe around the player was probably one of their best moves.

Everything in 2016 feels very small scale which is good for a trilogy starter, but most of the plot feels like it revolves around you alone and it's not a particularly strong plot, so the end result feels forced and weirdly insistent that it WANTS you to listen to what it has to say.

I feel 2016 beats you over the head with the plot via annoying unskippable sections and treats everything as a mystery where there frankly isn't any. If you've any notion what Doom is you know the beats going in. Even the previous Doomguy argument falls in line with this, I feel it's less immersion and more just longing for the pretty windowdressing they set up.

That's the cause of my issue, they had to pretend like there was some mystery to solve with a big reveal at the end when it really is just you and the enemies, and Hayden very obviously playing the role of the overseeing villain. It feels very banal after the first romp.

Weird food analogy notwithstanding, I think it's clear they aren't going to just replicate a 90s game from the ground up in a AAA environment. 2016 didn't do it, neither did Eternal. I think TDA evolving and giving the story proper time to shine is the logical evolution for the trilogy.
