Since the Slayer's already being referred to as the Slayer in the DA trailers, I'm guessing that he became known as the Slayer based on his actions between Ultimate and 64, unless there's more stuff that happened in between 64 and TDA that we're not seeing. It would've been nice to witness the point at which he initially obtains the title of Slayer for the first time.

imma be honest and say that the doomguy vs chief death battle proves that TDA HAS to put it's more story focused energy on the slayer himself too and characterize him as more than just someone who's really really REALLY angry at demons, there's so much more to him than that and there's some real potential to make others that aren't really well versed on doom's lore or him as a character to see that

I got the impression that the term "Slayer" came from when he went through the Divinity Machine, as a name appointed by the Maykrs or the Sentinels. But according to the Testaments he was already revered by Hell with a bunch of flowery names to show that he was a very scary adversary to Hell before he'd even gotten to Argent D'Nur.

Hugo said that TDA leads into the Slayer's Testaments, meaning that they must've been written after, concerning events that took place before.
