Well, to be fair, the term "multiverse" doesn't evoke this image. What it evokes is the idea of different universes and also different Hells, which is a substantially different idea.

Those are called glory strikes, glory kills are still in the game tho less frequent, you activate them by top down glory kills and so far they primarily consist of shieldsaw kills or ripping miniboss hearts in front of them. Other glory kills include the dragon which has 3 glory kills for titans I believe. Overall it's to serve the pace of the game and anyone who played the demo here can attest to it .

I feel, personally, that the progression from boomer shooter to mobility and reflex stuff is a reflection of escalating power in the Doom universe. The demons switching from Essence to Argent Energy signifies a huge increase in power and strength, and I think shit like fireballs being slow-moving projectiles VS flying fast as a bullet can tie into that power discrepancy.

By that logic, I feel that The Dark Ages is depicting a Slayer and Hell that are a bit less extreme than they are in the new games, because things are newer and Argent Energy hasn't been established.

There’s also the interpretation of the slayer testament that he gets stronger with each demon killed which is kind of backed by Hugo, but I know that’s not the most popular interpretation here for a few reasons.

I get the vibe the Maykrs controlling the Slayer is probably somewhat known by the Sentinels during the game and that it may be why they're so wary of him. The Night Sentinels were loyal to the Maykrs but IIRC the Codex says they were always wary, and even before the Maykrs' betrayal was evident, they strayed away from drinking Argent Energy when they encouraged it.

Also, I want to specify that Doomguy joined the Night Sentinels before he was the Slayer. They chose to train him after they saw he had experience with the demons when the Unholy Wars began. He was regularly going on crusades and missions with them before Taras Nabad happened.

• Start out as the Slayer very, very soon after the Seraphim blesses him. Sideshit happens and he is whisked away from Taras Nabad.

• Couple levels of that stuff and Maykr shit.

• End of "Act 1," the Taras Nabad siege, culminating in killing the Great One. The Sentinels are unsure of the Slayer as a trustworthy comrade.

• "Act 2" is general Hell war shit and learning about this mysterious alternate dimension, probably either some place Hell has conquered or something to do with the Wraiths. Slowly fight back against the Maykrs' control while also gearing up to deal with Ahzrak, who wants to conquer the planet to prove his worth and succeed his father, probably as Dark Lord of the Second Age.

• "Act 3" has the Slayer break free from the Maykrs' control and, with the Night Sentinels, go on their own rogue mission to try and end the war themselves. The Slayer regains his comrades' trust, and they go to confront Ahzrak in Nekravol, where they discover the Maykrs' treachery and the fact Ahzrak has been working with them the whole time. Ahzrak is the final boss, game ends with the Civil War looming over them all.

• DLC has you in the Civil War fighting Marauders and Loyalist Sentinels. Ends with the Betrayal.

Check the Lore FAQ. TLDR is that Doom 3 is its own story in its own Earthly Realm about Hell invading another Mars. It is probably during the Third Age, and it has lore about that Mars and how it had an ancient civilization of Martians who also confronted the demons.
I recommend playing it. It's a great game regardless of its relevance.

Archviles are like cousins to Imps. Archviles are powerful, have great control over their abilities, command authority - it'd make sense if they are like, just the superpowered version of that common ancestor, whereas the majority of the species instead became Imp Stalkers, which then became Imps.

Doom has time dilation, not time travel - there's no instance of Doomguy ever going back in time through Hell, just going forward faster in relation to Earth because he spends so much time in Hell.
