I feel like that's one of the benefits of having an actually reasonable marketing cycle instead of announcing the game 3 years before it comes out.
I also think the enemy count was modified for siege for the demo, it seemed very empty for an open-level, and I can't image that's how it'll be for the game, plus, they probably just wanted to show off more exploration instead of being stuck in one spot for the entire siege demo

The way I see it is Imps have a genetic proclivity for things like summoning other demons and wielding fire to a much greater degree, but it only manifests in certain individuals under the right conditions. It's an evolution tree.

My personal headcanon is that the Icon was intelligent in Doom II, and not restrained but simply stuck. I like to think it was different from other Titans; an Archdemon like Erebus, with actual authority and ruling power, before it died. When it was brought back by the Valen's son thing, it came back more destructive, but without the intelligence or authority. It went from a ruler to a weapon.
I felt the "speaking" and creating demons were things generally pointing to the idea that the Icon in Doom II was the "mastermind of the invasion" rather than just a big monster.

2016's Nightmare was fucking awful. The first three levels are hard as fuck because Imps take like 70% of your health in one shot, and then the rest of the campaign is smooth sailing because there are less Imps and you have more upgrades. Seriously poorly balanced.

I wish 2016 were more mod-friendly like Eternal is now, because the game would greatly improve from rebalancing mods. I used one last playthrough and it was very nice, but a bit annoying how the game insisted on proclaiming itself as being in dev mode and shit over it.
i havenât really tried mods for 2016 but theyâre out there - just not as up front as eternal. which even that, the legacy modding is through the fanmade mod launcher

what was the low health system? was it like, you get faster as you get closer to death?
most attacks will give you that last chance, and put you in low health (not all), and that system wasnât in 2016. itâs called âbrink of deathâ

That's true, but Doom Eternal incentivised diverse play and that's what made the combat so good. 14 guns isn't much use when 2 stand well above the rest
When stuff got hard, 2016 incentivised me to just use the gauss cannon and that game's combat suffers because of that design
I think the introduction of weapon mods really helped with that, as I had a reason to use the combat shotgun over ss in certain scenarios, same with the plasma rifle and heavy autocannon
again, its gonna be more melee, shield, weapon combos in fights

Watching the spike gun gameplay, it looks like it has a similar effective range and fire rate to the reaver, so thats a worry for me

Or even something like Nightmare difficulty where enemies respawn in the vein of different waves.
