Other than that, no clue. Maybe a Dreadnought boss? Or a fully intact Baalgar (2016’s Cyberdemon). Would be pretty cool.

Boss battles have never been much of a strong point in the franchise. Doom 2016 and Eternal’s are a lot of fun, but do lack challenge, which is kind of the main point of bosses in the first place. Then again, FPS boss fights are difficult to design, which is why you don’t see many good ones.

also if I remember correctly, Eternal was delayed to 2020 mainly for polishing reasons, not really gameplay or anything like that

I think it’s a bit more complex than that, though that is a factor. It’s undeniable that mick has defined what people see as the “modern doom sound” his work is iconic and, in my opinion, quite good. It’s totally true if it were someone else many would not care, but when 2016 released the music was one of the most praised aspects. I don’t like discussing this here mostly because there’s a lot of opinions and imo we don’t have all the information on the entire thing. It’s sad they split, especially as seemingly bitter as it was, but they’ve both moved on and I’m pretty tired of the conversation surrounding it since neither involved parties are even talking about it anymore.

I agree, although I’m sure it wasn’t intended for the game to trivialize its enemies with certain combos. As fun as Eternal’s combat was, I found myself limiting my arsenal and weapon mods just to make replays a little more engaging- because of how busted weapon swapping was.
I’m glad TDA is taking a step back. It’ll be refreshing to have a new combat system, rather than sticking to 2-3 combinations that eviscerates everything in seconds.

Iirc, during a stream for TAG2, Hugo said the demons use a token system for attacking. That’s probably how they balance demon aggression and speed. I’d assume TDA takes a similar direction.
