I used to use a DS Lite as like, the only thing I gamed on when I was 7 and I actually think that's one of the best D-pads out there. Certainly better than the fucking 3DS D-pad, that shit was painful. Even still I literally cannot play platformers with a joystick anymore, which is kinda why JoyCons really piss me off.

Especially since several Switch games only support multiplayer with the split JoyCon configuration, and one of those titles is Super Mario Maker 2

A side scrolling platformer.

Plus that weird button D-pad isn't really viable, I always use the JoyCons for most stuff but for those platformers I just pull out the fuckin Pro Controller because that actually has a usable D-pad

The thing is that once the companies started using analog sticks, the D-pad was no longer a multi directional input for most things, so the companies just stopped trying to make it comfortable to use.

I'm not saying it's a Baron, I'm just saying that simply because it's pink, that doesn't automatically make it a Pinky, since the Barons are pink too, but aren't considered Pinkies.

I mean it looks lie it could have a common ancestor with the Pinky, but t it also looks like a completely different species, which perhaps evolved under the same conditions in the same environment, giving them a similar external colouration. I wouldn't be surprised if it's called something completely different.
