You know a lot of people watch They Live but don’t actually get the biggest part of the movie.
The aliens weren’t inherently malicious, though they often were to an extent, it was that much like how they control earth’s biggest companies they too were once like humans in that exact position.
They saw that as long as profits were being made everyone was happy and so they adopted that culture, when they found earth they saw humans had a similar culture and were quick to adapt to new situations which made controlling humans easy.

You can also see in the movie that some of the aliens were bored with their own lives and masqueraded as humans to escape their own reality, when the veil was lifted they realized that they couldn’t keep up with their own new lives.
