Artifacts during Windows setup on multiple ISOs → problem is almost certainly hardware, not software.

Since the machine has no discrete GPU, the integrated GPU uses system RAM. Visual artifacts across installers strongly indicate:

Bad RAM (most common)

Overheating APU

Failed iGPU portion of the CPU

Faulty display cable/panel (less likely if artifacts show on external output too)

Before going further, one clarification needed so I don’t waste your time:

Clarifying question (answer with one line):

Do the artifacts also appear in the BIOS screen or only once Windows setup loads graphics mode?

Example answer:

“Yes BIOS is affected”

or

“No BIOS looks normal, only Windows setup has artifacts”

Answer that, then I will give the exact next diagnostic step.

#

Root cause is likely hardware-level memory instability triggered only when the iGPU starts using higher clock / VRAM modes, which Windows installer does but GParted does not. GParted uses very simple framebuffer. Windows setup enables accelerated graphics via the AMD GOP/firmware path. That is why artifacts appear only there.

Most probable points of failure (ordered):

  1. Bad RAM cell in the portion the iGPU maps as VRAM.

  2. APU (CPU + iGPU) thermal/power instability, often from dried thermal paste.

  3. BIOS using wrong memory timings (XMP/DOCP too aggressive).

  4. Failing APU iGPU block (less common, but possible).

Arch previously “working” does not invalidate RAM/iGPU damage. Linux often uses lower default clocks and different memory regions.

Quick, deterministic diagnosis path:

  1. Run MemTest86 (not Memtest inside Linux).
    Let it run at least 2 full passes.
    If errors appear, RAM or memory controller = bad. Replace RAM or try lower clocks.

  2. Enter BIOS and disable any memory overclock / XMP / DOCP.
    Force JEDEC 2133/2400 speeds.
    Then try Windows installer again.

  3. If problem persists:

Remove battery/AC

Reseat RAM (if removable)

Clean heatsink

Replace thermal paste

  1. If after all of that the artifact remains, the iGPU section of the APU is damaged.
    Only workaround = reduce iGPU VRAM allocation in BIOS or replace CPU/motherboard (laptops = whole board).

Optional test to confirm iGPU damage quickly:

Boot Linux live ISO (not the one already tested) and run:

stress-ng --gpu 1 --timeout 120s

If the screen corrupts → iGPU failure confirmed.

If you want, I can produce a minimal exact Windows installer build process that avoids hardware acceleration, to see if the machine can still install Windows at all.
