With Applesoft, Apple rpg games, early puzzle logic games of the NES and later the rollout of PCs inspired me into my software developer career, and I've been trying to make games for 40+ years haha! In order to make games, I had to buy VGA/EGA books for the low level code on the video cards, having to use assembly to write serial port drivers, later making TCP/IP stacks, the rapid onslaught of progress was a wave I couldn't get past in game making - just went into business software development. Today there is some much stuff built on top of the architecture, game makers can get right into making games.
