Their relationship was so wonderful. I think the vast majority of people would have euthanized, suggested by their vet. He probably was in the only place in the world where he could get the love and care he needed

Makes me wonder if Thor will take some time away from steam to process this or if he's going to do live as usual. I understand one way or the other I just really don't know how Thor does it with all the crap he's under constantly and dealing with the new build and stress from that and all the stress from the rescue how is he able to manage all of that and stream so regularly it's crazy.

After a "final" appointment, we bring them back so the others can interact. Some grieve, some notice and resume what they were doing. I've read, and have seen evidence if they are very close, and they don't get that final interaction, their friend can continue to search for them for a long time

Also based on my experience, i believe they can tell when one of them is nearing the end, being more gentle, choosing to sleep cuddled up to that ferret.
Rayna was getting near the end, and Willow started trying extra hard to make friends with the others, even if they were mean, she'd try over and over, go crawl up next to them while sleeping, approach, and stay perfectly still to indicate she wasn't a threat, etc

I know when one of my ferrets was getting up in years the others would spend more time with her. They stopped going up to the top half of the cage when it was too hard for her and would always put her in the center of the snuggle pile. They didn't use the top half until after she passed.

I am just learning of this sad sad day. I have been away from social media and having my eyes open all day as I have a randomly swollen eye and I have been doing warm compresses all day to calm it down. I am now crying writing this.
Henry was such an amazing ferret, even though I never got to meet him in person. He defied all of the odds and had a strong will to live, no matter what people said about him. He was a silly boi who loved his momma and his soopies. His Royal carrot was his companion when he wanted to play and his wiggles brought him to fun new places. Im so, so sorry Shaye and Thor. There are no words that can comfort the loss of a soul pet but I hope you do know how many people are thinking of you, supporting you. We all share just a tiny splinter of your pain. Hopefully it helps bear the weight of your heart just a little bit.

A lone ferret wakes. He sleepily opens his eyes and takes in his surroundings. A meadow stretches out around him on all sides. A slight breeze coaxes the blades of grass to tip in gentle waves as the sun above illuminates trees on the meadow edge a pond nearby. He can hear the trickling sound of a small waterfall feeding into that pond and finds it pleasing to his the ears.

Henry trots to the pond edge and happily sips the fresh water and as he drinks he thinks to himself that this is the best water he's ever tasted. It's energizing and refreshing at the same time. Henry looks down and notices the water is crystal clear. He can see fish darting around and lazily drifting on their way to a destination known only to them. Looking up he notes that the sun is at it's brightest yet he's perfectly comfortable. Not too hot and not too cold. It's perfect. He looks up into the sky and closes his eyes. Henry takes in the peace brought about by the sound of the breeze brushing through the grass and the water tinkling as it drops into the pond by the waterfall.

"This is nice." Henry thinks to himself.

"Hey Kid!" He hears. Henry starts to turn towards the voice when he realizes that voice sounds very familiar. Then sets eyes on someone he thought he would never see again.

Henry exclaims "Grandpa?!"

"We've all been waiting for you my friend." Grandpa says gently. A compassionate expression on his face and a smile creasing his cheeks. "I'm so happy to see you again Henry."

Looking at his long missed friend Henry slowly utters "Grandpa, where am I? Why am I here?" Grandpa can see his friend become worried and gently tells him "You're home. Home with family and friends."

"But I don't see Shaye here...." His voice slowly goes silent as Henry suddenly remembers being sick and very, very, tired. "Grandpa, why am I here? What happened?"

Grandpa solemnly looks at Henry and walks closer to put a paw on his shoulder. "Henry, I'm sorry, you've crossed over. This is heaven and you're with us now." He sees tears begin to fall from his eyes as Henry lowers his head. Hugging Henry Grandpa allows his friend to cry and mourn, there to support and comfort him.

"Will I see Shaye again Grandpa?" Henry quietly asks. "Of course you will kid. When it's their time to cross over they will join us here." Grandpa replies. Hearing this Henry's sadness and fear slowly began to fade. He looks up and notices his other friends lost to him trotting over to join him and Grandpa. Seeing them swells him with happiness and joy even though the tinge of sorrow in missing Shaye remains.

"HENRY!!!" He sees Fig running over and has just enough time try, and fail, to brace himself as Fig tackles him to the ground. "Oh my God Henry, I've missed you so much!" Henry feels fresh tears stream down his face as he's reunited with Fig. "Fig?! I'm so happy you're here too! I've missed you every day since you left." Fig looks at Henry with side eye and asks "Those are happy tears right? Right?" Henry smiles, "Of course they are you dingus."

It's at this exact moment Henry realizes something. His tremors are gone. His eyes open wide and he quickly looks over to Grandpa. Seeing the question in Henry's expression Grandpa smiles and answers "Crossing over is healing. All that ailed you has now been made right." Henry looks at his paws and concentrates. Nothing. No tremors. In this revelation he grins as he can now do something he's always wanted to do.

Still looking at Grandpa, Henry says "Hey Fig?". "Yea?" Fig replies while looking at him suspiciously.

Henry let's fly the best war dance of all war dances.

Henry really was and still is a role model who taught a lot. Over the past three years, I have faced many neurological challenges; yet Henry, even without ever having met him in person, gave me strength and inspiration and continues to do so. A hallway mural would be a cool thing to do for the rescue but I'd worry about doing murals in the rooms themselves. I'd question how well one would stand up to the various abuses and cleanings that would need to happen regularly.

i think shaye is planning on painting the walls themed. i think it will hold up well tbh paint tends to do well and i wouldnt think they would have to clean the wall more then like a foot off the ground. (besides maybe behind the cages)

thats why i suggested the hut/ castle idea. with a large as this community is. an the rescue growing . im sure many are wanting to do something, so maybe working on a design for a king henry hut or a castle would be a good idea. not a huge thing but defiantly something that will get used by the ferrets. and if a few a made then cool. just dont flood em with dozens apon dozens. so some cordination would have to be done but i think this community can do it they pull off lots of things
