(Backstory: Two of our ferrets, Rayna and Willow had to be kept separate from the others, because Rayna would attack any other ferret on sight. Willow is the sweetest ferret ever made. She just wants to be everybody's friend, but everyone was mean to her and attacked because she smelled like Rayna. Rayna got sick and passed away 6 months ago, so Willow was all alone. Since then, our mission was to help Willow have as many companions as possible. "New" boy Julian and her became friends after much hesitation, and us helping them interact.. then came Gizmo, who previously attacked her.)
Today, we felt comfortable enough to put "new " boy Immy (he can play rough) in her room with her. It's official, Willow has gone from being alone to having three friends! Willow is in the back

I wanted to let you all know that today is my last day working with Shaye and the ferrets 🥲. I'm moving on to pursue a management position at my other job! It has been such a blast getting to know these ferrets and I will miss seeing them every week, but don't worry I will still pop in to say hi every now and then! This is terrible timing, but we have news about willow:
after lots and lots of testing Willow has finally been officially diagnosed as having hypothyroidism. This is great news, as the initial assumption was she had a cancer that imitated the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is treatable. It's also very rare in ferrets, so rare in fact, i believe the documented number of confirmed cases... is 7.
huge sigh of relief.
She gets her first dose of meds in about 2 hours.
Hopefully Willow's good luck will transmit to Henry

Mystery solved. Kept finding this cat mat in the bedroom, but no one ever used it there. This time, i saw julian dragging it into the bedroom. Once he got in there he kept climbing inside the bed, then picking up the mat.. dropping it...

So i decided to scroll the Ferret Wiki. There are 3 ferrets from march still with no mugshots. just to update. i get that things have been wild with Mocha passing, the Stinky and Luna stuff, and now Henry.

just wanted to report this.

And yeah. Loss/sickness happens during the changing of seasons same with new birth, its a balanced cycle but it doesnt make it any less sad

Non localized GI bleed caused a drop in blood pressure and body temp. Transfusions from Frog and Toad kept him going through the worst and now hes in an incubator to help keep him warm. They've also given him medication to help with the GI bleeding.

He's not out of danger but he is stable and has a chance to improve. Thor is optimistic.

Largely looking steady to slight improvements

Poop is now firmly normal colored and not Tarry

There is some question if it is undigested carnivore care or not and if his gut is working sufficiently

BG is 67 just now. better / still near low normal, but thats still with dextrose support

Taking syringe feeding decently

Weight is stable

abdominal effusion may be decreasing

CBC overnight had a slightly high WBC count with a lot of bands, so sepsis from bacterial translocation as consequence of the GI bleed is continuing to be the top concern. HCT on that sample was 36%

PCV 33% and TP 2.0 this AM vs 11% and 1.0 at intake (PCV is measure of red blood cells / anemia and TP is total Protein which handles fluid balance / substance transport / immune function)
