So, maybe a sad thing.. but sweet old lady Sushi was born deaf, and I haven't seen much specifically about deaf ferrets and the sounds they make, other than deaf ferrets make sounds that hearing ferrets don't. Today the vet and I had a conversation about.. things., hopefully someone remembers these sounds when they get their own. But her happy squeaks and her uncomfortable squeaks are similar. I got bit by a ferret who was in distress tbf, we were in a moving car and my hand was resting on their cage, it saw me as danger (they also didn't know me yet!) and bit me, 100% not the ferrets fault, but I was 6 or 7 and wasn't warned or taught what not to do other than don't stick your fingers through the bars (which I didn't)... As an adult I understand this, but as a kid it was traumatising, with 3 adults laughing at me (well, 2.5, my brother was around 15 at the time, my sister and her partner were adults though) instead of explaining what happened...

We got "Accessibility Rugs" for sweet-old-lady-baby Sushi. For almost a week, no one pooped on any of the rugs... then someone had an accident, and all poop-hell broke loose.
Thought maybe it was the scent, but we've been using baby wipes to collect, spray the heck out of it with rescue spray, take it outside, smother with dishsoap, rubbing it in.. then spraying the heck out of it with the hose outside on the "jet" setting, hanging and drying.. bringing it back in and vacuuming 🤷♀️

Sushi got up, and peed again.. I guess because she had soup recently.. after she peed, she ran into the living room.. she has a certain run that she does when she needs to poop. I didn't want her to go on the rug, so I scooped her up (lovingly) and placed her on a pad. I looked down, and realized I was standing in a puddle of pee. I took a step back to assess the situation, and her a squish sound....
Now i have protocol for such situations, I stepped out of my house shoes, picked up my shoes, the right having 3 poops squished onto it, and headed to the secondary bathroom to sanitize them in the secondary bathroom tub...
Standing in front of, the tub, I felt wetness under my right foot, and realized I was standing is a separate pee puddle someone had made in the last few minutes.. I didn't know what to do since I can't take my feet off (easily) so I was balancing scrubbing my foot, but I was nervous to walk back, because my foot was wet, I didn't want to track pee I couldn't see... so I arched backwards to grab paper towels and made "foot shields" out of said paper towels, checked moisture, made my way to the laundry room and put on old torn up shoes... and began sterilizing everything.. although I'm starting to think just burning the house down would be easier..
Silver lining I guess? The stepped in poop kind of looks like a side view of a headless ferret climbing

My little rescue Bertie crossed the rainbow bridge this afternoon, took him in because he had severe malnourishment as a kit and his body hadn't developed properly, he was estimated to be 3 months old, I looked after him for just a week but he became my whole world for all those hours. 😭💔 the vets recommendation was to put him at peace as his outlook for his quality of life was poor at best. Dunno why I'm sharing this here, I just felt like some of you will understand the loss I feel right now. 😞

The vet, husband and I, decided we think the time, will be when Sushi doesn't want her daily soup anymore.. I asked Shaye about the grinding, because today is the first day she hadn't finished it and went looking for more.

The grinding I read could be from ulcers.. which she was on carafate for, but started to refuse to take. It's not as effective if taken within an hour of meds or food, but I mixed a tiny amount of soup in and the took it all

Gonna miss you being proud to run around commando in ur fuzzy chaps and telling Shaye to screw those sweaters that she tried to make u wear. You were one of the best oldies that came to live at Snails House. I enjoyed your time there and watching you make cuddle friends, being happy n grumpy, and getting excited to chow down on some kibble.
