Probably depends on the robot and what it does. They've had little toy balls that will roll around on their own that the ferrets seemed to enjoy playing with. Then there's the vaccuum which is an evil beast that must be killed.

For a long time "he" was both masculine and the default if you did not know what the gender/pronoun was. That has changed, but it is very much still a default behavior for many adults even if they dont realize why.
