the reason ferrets bring kits to the owner is unknown, but its likely just strong mothering instinct going a little wild

I wish shaye had a journal or would write a book. Our vet was taking advice from her because she has so much experience. It's really cool too, because our vet didn't just use that info to help ours, but she told me that using that advice she helped other ferrets at that clinic.
It's criminal that we live in an age, where we practically have all of human knowledge available to us at all times, and there's still so little info about ferrets out there

I'm one of those that can't really have a ferret. Besides my financial constraints, my body likes the hotter temperatures. I'm comfortable in 100 degree weather and will start shivering around 70 degrees; when possible I like to keep my house around 80....that makes it kind of a non starter when it comes to ferrets.

Oh, if anyone was following me to find some supposedly abandoned ferrets in a recreational area, since I couldn't find them after 3 tries, I contacted the county's animal control and asked if they could look and I would take responsibility for getting them to a rescue. The person on the phone said "they'd look into it" and let me know

Last Chapter in the "Abandoned Ferret Saga"
So... went by the vet's office to pick up medication for Sushi, told her I looked for the abandoned ferrets for quite a bit of time but couldn't find them, then she said "yeah our last sighting was 2 weeks ago" "the first sighting was 3 months ago" so I pulled out my phone to show her pictures of minks. "Could you have possibly seen minks? Ferrets wouldn't make it more than a few days" She said yeah that's probably what it was. Then she said "I don't know a lot about rodents"
Then my eye twitched and I said "yeah me either" and she said "oh that's right they aren't rodents"
So, I guess I was right about the mink theory. So.. that's it. Apparently it seems no ferrets were ever in danger, and now I can sleep a little better

I usually prefer sq injections for any medication I can for older ferrets primarily because they often have loss of muscle tone

Thinking about getting a 3d printer to help me with work stuff, and I was thinking about ferret toys, and how they're really just cat toys... I wanted to design something like a "forever play set" involving a series of tunnels that are made up of sections of tubing that snap together, imagine big Legos but with tunnels in the middle, some turn, some fork into two directions, some go up.. but you can reconfigure it endlessly, and one of the four walls is clear plastic, so you can watch them

yeah, just thinking ahead :3 a set is probably gonna need dozens of them, and if you want more than like 3 sets, a 3D printer isn't gonna keep up. by the time you have enough printers to do so, it would have been cheaper to just go to protomolds and gotten a small run done, so if you just design them to be molded from the start protomolds will be even easier to work with; without having to forgo the 3d printed prototyping stages

also, I know they make something very similar to your idea, but for hamsters. so you might go look at a pet shop's hamster section to see if you can find anything to be inspired by; not just overall ideas but really get in and look at how they do things

price wise, last I looked at getting something relatively simple from protomolds it was like... $1500 for a mold. so it won't be cheap to get started, but once the mold is done it can be used for a silly number of runs

keep in mind though that that is for a single mold, and stuff like curves, T junctions, etc are all going to need to be separate molds (hence the suggestion to try and design them to be exact mirrored halves, so you only need 1 mold per part instead of 2)

Yeah our Sushi is mostly bald. Adrenal causes hair loss. Adrenal causes hair loss. And she's on prednisolone for something else, which inhibits hair growth.
We have another with adrenal, but it's her only current health problem, so she has her hair. There's an implant they once a year for the adrenal. $350 + whatever the vet charge. Ferrets B expensive

would anyone know of a rescue for disabled ferret? i have a ferret i spent 3k getting both his broken elbows repaired by an accomplished vet at a university... the one elbow was so bad and with such little material to work with, it was likely the pin would slip out of place over time and it has.. its been 3 years since that surgery and he now has significant internal scar tissue and a limp present since after surgery but he is happy, playful, and healthy otherwise. he just cant walk comfortably on hard surfaces and also cannot be housed with other ferrets due to their rough play nature and his fragility... but hes the friendliest little guy and has never bitten anyone or anything a day in his life and is even comfy with dogs of all sizes. he yeeted himself off our stairs/upper floor shortly after adopting him though hence the surgery. it was my sister's ferret and she abandoned him and i dont have the funds to get him another surgery so i have to surrender him to a rescue but need help. im in DC area

Nothing will ever happen to the rescue, but if you ever have a natural disaster and need to temp relocate some of your babies. We will drive the 40ish hours and keep up to 10 babies at our cost, and keep them quarantined from our babies that apparently have FRECV. Until the insurance money kicks in to rebuild. They'll get the best ferret medical care for ferrets the Midwest has to offer.. which I have learned isn't the greatest.. but.. it'll have to do

Been going through our expenses, Sushi's bills alone have been $1400 in the last 30 days. I'm not complaining. It's worth every penny.
I'm not discouraging anyone. I know there's a lot of people hopeful of adopting ferrets soon, andI think everyone here would be a better owner than the average pet store buying owner.. but I do recommend getting pet insurance, and/or having some money saved and set aside for your fuzzies, especially during their twilight years

Looking at the second feed I feel a lot of eye strain from how visually busy the corner is; there's a lot of overlapping lines and intersecting objects that make my brain short circuit a bit.

And her sister Sugar who passed away from cancer in July of 23.. first two ferrets I got a an adult and with my husband.. and here comes the crying I've been holding in this evening

She had a follow-up appointment on a Saturday morning.. 3am.. she wanted out of her cage.. we let her out.. she ran about 20 feet, and then fell.. just laying there.. sometime between then and 8am she passed
