You got that right. Once he figured out how to get over the gate to the rest of the house. And that's all he wanted to do, so I had to modify it several times. When he figured out he can't make it over anymore (for now) he hissed at me. Ferret hisses are crazy sounding

In our old place, our Gizmo was obsessed with chewing on one specific cable. Of course it was the most expensive cable we had, a proprietary cable for a vr headset that at the time was like $170

Had to post this because it's ridiculous. While some of the glue that was used in combination with screwing in wood to keep Clyde out of the wires. We used empty litter pad boxes, and put exercise weights inside to block the gap temporarily so he can't get to the toxic glue. Takes 24 hours to cure apparently.

As part of a wildlife management course run jointly by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Wyoming Game and Fish, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most important recovery programs in North America: the Black-footed Ferret Conservation Center.

This species was once believed extinct. Today, it’s making a comeback thanks to coordinated captive breeding, habitat restoration, and disease management efforts. The black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes) is still one of the rarest mammals on the continent, but every burrow counts.

The ferrets in these photos are part of the breeding program, which plays a key role in population stabilization and reintroduction. Observing them up close was an incredible reminder of how fragile and determined life can be.

The short of it is you create breeding groups and don't allow reproduction within that group, instead you breed them with other groups to prevent inbreeding, then you let nature take its course and hope for generational mutations that diversify the gene pool.

The problem they have is you need a population of thousands to create a stable, diverse gene pool for species health...starting with 9 you're already being forced to inbreed just to get population levels up and inbreeding is how you get a horrible gene pool like marshalls ferrets.
