Hello! I'm new to the ferret chat, but I've been keeping the stream on in the background because I like the calmness/cuteness. This may have been brought up before, but I notice that our mutual friend Henry (who is special) likes to squeeze in between things. I was wondering this morning, is Henry perhaps trying to steady his own head when he's squeezing in between pillows/tubes/blankets? I've noticed those are his three big activities because of the scar tissue in his brain, he shakes his head, he runs in clockwise circles, and he often tries to squeeze in otherwise very tight spaces. It made me wonder if maybe setting a couple of pillows next to one another to squeeze into (like a hallway getting smaller), with a small tube he can tightly fit his head into and see the whole room? Or! If I knew how to do it I'd make the little guy a circular treadmill so he can experience the sensation of seemingly running straight ahead. Love the rescue!

Welcome to the ferrets yarrBongos Henry is getting the best treatment he can get. The shaking seemingly happens when he tries to focus on a task he's trying to perform. The more focus, the more shakes. For the direction he's running, he can run in either direction and even straight but seems to prefer to go in circles. Seeing the whole room is sadly not something that he would be able to do, from what Shaye can tell he's most likely fully blind or only able to see light intensity differences.

When rereading the announcement before that, Thor mentions that they had two options "excise a lymph node now to confirm the diagnosis, or do chemo without enough information", so I think they are now anaylising the lymph node to see how to best handle it further

Hey @lunar prism I work as a rescuer for fish and small animals and I've had so many stories like ghost.

One I got a call from an animal control officer about a pacu, a 30lb aquarium fish someone was keeping in a tank with no heat and so small he couldn't turn around inside.

He didn't make it. He died years before I got to him, I was just the reaper coming to end his suffering.

I fought like hell for that fish and watched him slowly die changed me.

There is always a ghost, or a humongous Harold the pacu and we as people who actually give a shit have to clean up after the people who don't.

You did good out there, you gave ghost the best life. She did not die in a mite infested dump, but in the arms of someone who genuinely loved and cared for her, someone who advocated for her well-being, and someone she learned to trust.

She did not suffer when she died, her passage from this world was as painless as falling asleep, and in her last hours she knew only love.

You will go on to relieve more suffering and you will suffer because of it, but that's because you give a shit

She loved to explore and loved to dig and you both gave her that opportunity and also most important the comfort that she needed.

@lunar prism I also wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I myself had lost 2 dogs within the last 5 years, one I grew up with since I was 6, so I know how hurtful it can be. All I can do is send you lots of hugs and I just wish all of you a well recovery. I know it never stops hurting but with time it gets more bearable. And every loss deserves to be remembered as the joy it was in life.

Yeah. Loki was solo for a while when snow passed away. He was too rambunctious to be solo tho, even while free roaming. So we got Astrid who was a rehome. She is my special derpy deaf albino girl. I just saw the update on Ghost. Sometimes life deals the hardest cards, and we’re left trying to make sense of something that has no clear reason. It sucks. But I feel like Ghost’s story isn’t defined by how quickly this all happened or how cruel the illness was — it’s defined by how much she was cared for once she found Thor and Shaye. Letting go of the unfairness won’t erase her story it just allows space to honour the love that carried her through. It’s heart-breaking how some animals are treated which is exactly why the work done at the rescue is so important and the new building will help save many more wigglers. I can’t wait to see its progress this year yarrLove

I personally don't have great experience with deshedding brushes with longhair cats, these brushes/combs always worked best for longhaired cats in my experience :3

Ugh. Too much work. Was tired and set a ferret down in the wrong room.. a couple of minutes later came the screeching and a lot of poop to clean up. Poor baby. I need to force myself to relax more so I don't make stupid mistakes that hurt them

Won't bother you with a ping Shaye, but if you notice:
in fact offer an idexx panel (although I didn't even know that was an option until you messaged with me.) Sushi has a very enlarged spleen our new vet wants to remove.
She and I have a similar attitude though... on paper she has enough health problems, that "certain options" should be entertained , but she is still so playful, that seems like a bad option to take.
Sushi is over 6.. the spleen operation apparently has an 80% success rate... but I don't want to make a hard decision. How the hell do you do it with 50 fuzzies?

Ferrets always get large spleens when they start aging, it's extremely common, splenectomies aren't usually necessary unless A) it's causing significant physical discomfort , B) there is high suspect for neoplasia / tumors are visible on ultrasound, C) an injury occurs resulting in significant bleeding of the spleen

Spleens can enlarge for a variety of reasons, including underlying illness / infection

Just saw the sad news about Kylo. He may have only had a short time at the rescue, but it was full of care and warmth. I’m glad Roxy got a chance to say goodbye and hope she finds some new playmates soon to lift her spirits 💜
