I value everyone being happy and if they don't like echother then no stay whiskey is a prime example of this. When she first got here with me, she didn't like anybody and had only been kept alone in a cage her whole entire life i gave her about 2 weeks in my room with blocked off. Introduction so they could see her but they couldn't touch her and once she stopped freaking out when she saw them and trying to attack them through the glass, I let her actually meet them and everybody got along and she claimed bender as her husband

Noodles have to be individually bathed. That aren't the girls. The girls can be bathed together, but the boys will have to be bathed one by one because they like.To not stay in the bathtub 💀 and I have to watch nibbler last because he likes to poop in the bathtub

I've tried offering the girls dried minnows, freeze dried beef heart, and those little "raw booster" thingies that are probably bad, but came with her coworkers, so i'm gonna use em up.

The boys do steal cat food whenever they're upstairs, and the dog food which surprised me... it's large breed, so the pellets are... a challenge for them to eat.

I'm not sure what Thomas thinks he is. He grew up with a dauchsund that was terrified of everything, and the vet said he had some sort of chromosome issue.

From what I'm seeing, both adrenal cancer and insulinoma (also cancer) are much more prevalent in American ferrets

We have 2 with adrenal and 2, possibly 3 with insulinoma

That means 4 out 5 of our ferrets have a form of cancer.
We took in an old ferret, basically at the end of his life. We didn't want him to go to someone who didn't know what they were doing. He had an insulinoma.

You're absolutely right, the research does show the diet to cancer correlation.
I'm sure there are many factors. I've also read that Marshall spays and neuters them before they are developed which causes disease, but that gets them out the door faster saving them money. According to a report from the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterans, there was an outbreak of canine distemper that swept through the facility, and they shipped them out anyway. Lots of reports of pet stores receiving "acutely sick and dying" ferrets. Apparently they now give them 2 rounds of distemper vaccinations before sending them out the door than one. They've been cited for several animal welfare violations. Combine this with the severe inbreeding, and I think that also adds to the problem.
I would imagine it would be difficult for private breeders to have access to adequate genetic diversity

All I remember from the ferrets I met here in Europe is that someone lost both her ferrets at age 6 to different "mystery" illnesses, now thanks to watching the stream I have learned that one of them most likely had adrenal (he lost all his fur in not too long a time) and the other one was lethargic and kept having seizures, more and more often before she passed away. I honestly think the vet they saw didn't know the first thing about ferrets, which is sad, I feel like they both could have lived longer if diagnosed properly... I guess my point is that these health issues happen just as much here as they do over there ><

Line anything else they vary in quality. There's a rescue near Chicago that just basically gave you a ferret if you gave them money. There is one in Indiana that won't give their ferrets to anyone unless they do an extensive interview, and you give a video tour of your home, or at least the area you have planned for them.. they also provided much better records, and give a discount if you buy a book about ferret care.. much better system

I feel like the ferrets my sister had (roughly 25years or so ago) might've been hybrids, they were HUGE, they fit in cat harnesses (adult cats, not kittens), I don't remember much else about them other than that one of them bit a chunk of flesh out of my hand and I had a hole in my hand for a good long while, while it tried to heal. Think it took several months to heal>< It's why I've been terrified of them ever since, but watching them on Twitch has turned my fear into affection lol, I'd love to meet some ferrets again one day and see how different they are from my experience..

I don't know how any of our ferrets would have giardia. That's typically from drinking tainted water outdoors if I recall correctly. But our sweet old lady Sushi has had diarrhea on and off for two years. She's been on metronidazole several times. It seems to get better, then comes back after the treatment ends. Also with our new vet, one of her staff said "I'm getting pretty good at reading stool panels" which did not give me a lot of confidence

They have 5 stool samples, so unless it's a brand new infection it's a false positive.
Planned on taking a couple of stool samples anyway. We have one ferret that has runny gross sometimes, and normal other times.. removed what we know could cause it

Would antibiotics improve the IBD if that were the case? I don't think in humans that's how it typically works.. if so that's the frustrating mystery part 😺

Could also ask your vet if they use idexx labs, idexx has a ferret fecal PCR panel that tests for / rules out a lot of things
