I believe ferret stink comes from one of two sources. Either they didn't have their scent gland removed, in which case, run for the hills you're about to get skunked out of your house or bad hygiene by the owners. Ferrets will largely clean themselves and don't need a lot of bathing, bathing too often and with soap will cause them to overproduce scent and start to smell.

Ferrets that don't have their scent glands removed don't smell THAT bad lol, they just smell a little stronger than de-scented ferrets. I've only ever met ferrets that still had their glands cause it's illegal to remove them here (medical reasons excepted). Now ferrets who haven't been de-sexed however... when they're in season you better find something to plug your nostrils with, from what I've heard 😂 But yes, bad hygiene from owners, over-bathing etc will cause ferrets to stink for sure

I wonder if they've ever considered attaching something like lexan to the front of the fence. Use a nut, bolt and washer on each corner to hold it in place and it would make a smooth surface that would be harder for the ferrets to climb up. Its also durable enough to not worry about ferret claws and light weight enough to not make the fence overly heavy.

Also! They ran tests on Sushi, she apparently doesn't have lymphoma after all. They thought the glands in her neck were enlarged, but when they put her under the bulging disappeared, so they think she just has thicker neck muscles then average, but they are going to start using the treatment you recommended for other ferrets here!

I have found one thing he'll snap awake for tho. When i give him and the other boys salmon oil, i do it by tapping the bottle on the floor of the cage to get it to spit out a little pool. First tap is socks, second tap is eggo, third tap, and cornchip literally snaps to his feet, fully awake and already reaching his tongue out to find his puddle.

Before i drift off. Here's our second ferret who was diagnosed with insulinoma having tremors that our old vet would not treat, because insulinoma is so "incredibly rare" the chances of us having two are "astronomically small

After bringing her in twice because she was constantly sleeping

She was diagnosed with our new vet btw. Old vet didn't even suggest a glucose check, even though I said she was lethargic and laying in unusual positions and places
