@tall path Asked you about metronidazole, because I had a tougher than usual case.. had a breakthrough.. for Sushi, instead of us pinning her down and scruffing her and being the bad-guy.. I have devised the following strategy:
- a syringe full of "pickle juice" (salmon oil)
- syringe of of metronidazole, but standing with the tip submerged in the pickle juice (remaining submerged was important )
Start with the pickle juice syringe, then pause (the amount of time it would take to switch syringes, because she started to figure out the 2nd syringe was the meds) so I fake her out.. pickle-juice, pause, pickle juice, pause, pickle juice, meds, but since the oil is thick, it seems to block the smell of the meds, so she opens up, then I squirt it into the side of her mouth.. obvs only works with small doses.. because of choke risk.. 0.12 mL in this case.
It went from a 20 minute fight, to a 30 second process
Success 4 times in a row so far... and interestingly the "after trauma".. where she would angrily run around the room for several minutes, also much reduced
Additionally, since she's blind, I was really concerned because before she would violently thrash her head around, and I was worried about her smacking her eye into the syringe. Not an issue this way

They really gaslit me while I was panicking and wanting someone there to hold my hand. I didn't know what I was getting myself into at the time. It was rough. They were like "Well we can just not do the MRI, you can leave" - Like they were on some weird time schedule. It sucked. Fortunately my partner was in the waiting room.... and it was on Christmas Eve no less.

Henry's brain is about 60% scar tissue. It appears he was born that way. He mostly lives a normal healthy life tho he needs some help with a few things and Shaye helps him. His head spins involuntarily in response to stimulation so when he is hungry and excited about food it makes it difficult for him to eat. Shaye is helping him eat here by helping him stay calm and stable.

Well. Our sweet old lady Sushi likely also has insulinoma, as well as lymphoma But she's old. so.. It's not a huge shock like it was with Willow. Won't know for sure until her adrenal implant takes effect

PSA: Not all vets are equal, we recently changed vets. Our old vet thought Sushi's Adrenal disease symptoms wecpointed out weren't a big a deal and thought she didn't need an implant. He also said her diarrhea was just something she'd have to live with. No testing.
New vet saw her, with no mention of Adrenal said "she has all the obvious symptoms of Adrenal disease," got the implant put in today. She also tested her stool. Clostridium was present. Gave meds for that and possible Helicobacter. Her stool is now normal, and we switched vets.
Get a second opinion if you have any doubts. Don't worry about offending your vet. Your pet's life is more important

Makes sense, I will say though I have had good results with oral chemotherapy for lymphoma
If that's an option for you, it's very safe with minimal side effects in ferrets, I have had a few with lymphoma on chlorambucil oral 1x daily (kitty is on it right now and improving well, she has severe lymphoma throughout her body)

No I've always had it made into a liquid oral suspension at a compounding pharmacy, I'd ask your vet about it

It can be compounded with whatever flavor the pharmacy had, I usually get chicken flavor, it's not very bitter
I've never had an issue with anyone disliking it

Yep, we had a dog on cushings meds, same stuff. Our bunny once had antibiotics and it was just kids liquid meds, he eye drops were hooman ones too.

earlier this week i was watching Trixie Mattel talk on her podcast about how she got so high off a small dose of gabapentin. And i was like "why does that sound familiar?" and i checked my old dog's vet logs and yeah that was what they prescribed her (my dog Lola may she rest in peace) for i think her hip. but it was definitely gabapentin

Yeah, Ruby, the 80 pound black lab we have has horrible anxiety at the vet. They make us give her two doses of gabapentin before she can come in. She's basically blackout high the whole time she's at the vet.
It's weird, because she's high strung at home, but never ever considers biting, and i've heard her growl like.. once. But apparently at the vet she turns into a terror.
