from what i have seen/heard ferrets tend to pick 1 'being' to be best friends with and will enjoy their time with that being more than with others. should that being pass then the ferret could pass of lonelyness/heartbreak that is why earlier this year when felix passed, Shaye tried to integrate Finn with other ferrets, unfortunately that didnt work and finn is now a solo ferret (sometimes ferrets do survive alone and are happier alone (Ghost being a prime example).

thats not to say that they always have to be in pairs, like Gen pop they can be in big business' but you will find some that seem to be together more than others.
