Arc Raiders callout voices are the same technology as live stream TTS.

The argument against Arc Raiders use of AI voices has reached an absurd fever pitch that doesn't make any sense to me. Lots of grand standing and moral highgrounding for what amounts to nothing at all.

I guess a different example would be like, if a studio hired a band for a soundtrack for a game, but the band only played one note from their instrument, and then the soundtrack was Generated purely one from the singular notes being played. (I hope that makes sense)

There is one key aspect of the Arc Raiders Gen AI stuff that still hasn't been brought to light however, and it is one that slightly concerns me.

Yes, the VA's were paid for their recordings, and that was their choice to do so. But, and here's the bit that brings me concern, were the VA's paid a lot less for their work, considering that they actually had to provide a lot less recordings for what is used in the game?

Are they getting paid royalties for the use of their voices? That aspect as far as I've seen, we don't know.

I found a recently published, really good neutral, critical long article on it. Another thing that's always irked me about it is media preservation by government mandate
It's not how we treat literally any other kind of media, paid or not
If a painter wants to burn their painting, there's nothing requiring they first make backups for people who paid to see it in a museum
Art and media preservation is done on a purely voluntary and private basis, and there's nowhere in other media fields that it's mandated by law

The best comparison I've seen for live service games, and the requirement for preservation, is like
Imagine if this was in the guise of a stageplay performance
This would require you to have a video crew and means of reproduction so you can hand out copies to people who paid to see it, in the event that your crew stops putting on the show
And if you don't want or can't afford to do that, you aren't allowed to do the show at all

I personally dislike that fact as im an archivist that wishes to show such things to future generations so instead its illegal to preserve some things wont stop some people (see Nosferatu for examples)

Personally, the route I'd take is better consumer protections for purchasing, and a modification of copyright law for these kinds of things in the event that they aren't supported by the creators any longer
There shouldn't be a punishment for doing it yourself if it isn't being done officially anymore
But mandating by law that the creators hand out the resources to do so is a step too far for me

Understandable i believe personally an archival place such as how library archives work would be awesome when it comes to government sanctioned places that save such media and of course some people will illegally preserve their favorite media and might be the only copy left in a decade to a century later

Preservation of any kind of media was always the job of the consumer. Films, music, art, etc.

What they shouldve done, imo, was target the copyright or other laws that prevent people from recreating/copying games after they "die"

Not force it into the process of creation
