My recommendation is pick up pico8.
It uses Lua, which is a fairly simple scripting language, it has all the tools for making a game, a relatively active community, and because it has a lot of limitations it forces you to focus on doing things, rather than feature creeping.
(Even then, unless you're like me, you'll end up feature creeping anyways.)

Engines like Unity, Godot, and the sort are good points of starting too. I would go more for C# because that translates into learning C#, which is a good career option

But they tend to be too big, and a lot of people end overwhelmed

The answer I usually hear as someone who is also a newbie attempting to get into code is Python. But also as a newbie I think the thing that personally worked best for me was trying Scratch, which is a drag and drop block-based coding website. It's kind of kid oriented but it lets you start coding games without having to know all the syntax and there is a mode that lets you view it as code instead of blocks. I personally found it way more fun than all my attempts at random free online coding lessons bc I actually got to immediately make things instead of fumbling around doing boring Hello World stuff over and over

Asking what a good programming language to learn first is like asking whether you should learn how to use a screwdriver or hammer first - are you trying to hang a painting on a nail or assemble a wallsocket?
Once you know what you want to make, you'll need to refine it a bit probably to figure out where you want it to run, how complex it would be, etc. These choices will all ultimately influence what language to start with
