TLDR Thor made 2 vids and a short about SKG, being against it and coming off as rude. This was 10 months ago.

Fast forward to now, SKG is almost over and they claim thor killed it despite thor not talking about it since 10 months ago.

I listened to the video from the person doing the movement and what Thor had to say.

My take is that the movement wants devs to have a plan for end of life shutdown of their games. And by requiring them to have this plan in place, games would be developed easier to disassemble in the future so they could be preserved more easily rather than shut off with no recovery or support.

Thor’s arguments and reactions to it assume that every online game has to be made single player and that every online game would cease to exist if they had to implement a plan.

As Thor himself said, as a developer of offline only games, I don’t think this topic is one that he should have inserted himself into. While his perspective as a developer is insightful, Thor and Stop Killing Games seem to be on opposite but not conflicting sides of the argument.

SKG also went to GamersNexus recently to get more converse and clarity on the matter.

Throughout all of this, I have to wonder in my head, as Thor makes me call back to him often -
