Pretty much. During development of Xenopus laevis, I have seen ApoE affect how quickly motor neuron axons to grow, and I've seen it specifically on the side I injected it. In Alzheimer's disease, this protein stops working properly, and can't get rid of a by-product of neurons firing, which then leads to the issues. It's really quite cool to see first hand.

That's what current therapies are trying to target. They're trying to target ApoE specifically. Either the protein as it is made and doing its work, or as it is as DNA to stop the problem from happening in the first place. There's some really promising things happening, I saw a PhD programme being advertised for a drug that is meant to target ApoE in Alzheimer's patients to cure them of it. The company behind it has already patented it, but wanted to know how the body metabolises the drug so it doesn't cause any harmful side-effects. So hopefully, in the next decade we'll have some actually mega useful treatments for Alzheimer's disease. 🤞

Well, let me give you a metaphor for how it went down.

It's like if I wanted to put forward an initiative for Free Water for All, coming from a tap or faucet in every mile of a country. I make the Initiative look really nice and labelled all the good things that would happen if it went through. Good idea right?

But I didn't think about about the infrastructure changes.

The plumbing of the water,
