There's a theory that I have which I think holds up.

I think one thing people don't realise is that evolutionarily, we're still in tribe mode. Our brains are still wired for small social groups, "The Village", and have been in that mode for 10's of thousands of years.

We haven't evolved far enough as a species to properly communicate and understand the other "Tribes" of the world, yet we have full access to almost all of them if we so choose.

And then social media offers an "easy way" back into being in a Tribe, rather than using the amazing communication opportunities we have to learn about other people.

On Steam, there was no content that was in infringement, which automatically makes the DMCA invalid. It doesn't matter who, where and what says. It could have been the dev saying that it's in the game on steam, with Gabe Newell's confirmation. As long as the content is not actually there, DMCA is invalid. DMCA is not for intention or possibility of infraction. When you fill a DMCA, you have to clearly state what the infraction is. "The dev wants in the future to add my copyrighted material" is not a valid infraction.

That's what the other means of communicating your intent through legal means are for. Cease-and-desist, I know what you want to do, if you go ahead with it, it's an infringement and I will take legal measures. Or go the lawsuit route, with a plus of defamation.

Yes, if you don't defend your trademark, you have high chances of losing it. Copyright is more a gray area, but it's kind of the same, you fail to protected, you kind of lose the right to it in time.

But this is in regards only to actual infringements, when talking about DMCA. A cease-and-desist letter is still considered protecting your copyright/trademark, when an infringement haven't actually happened, and you formally threaten with DMCA on actual release

He was wrong. You don't fill a legal document, as a DMCA, without doing proper research on what you are DMCAing.
The correct thing he should have done is proper research, like checking that the copyright material is actually on steam or not.
After he would have found that it's not, he should have made a cease-and-desist letter or go hardcore with a lawsuit. If the dev went with publishing the content anyway, regardless of the letter, then it would have been an actual copyright infringement that would have required a DMCA.

The only DMCA, at that moment, when the entire thing that happened, could have been a DMCA to reddit or the hosting provider for the clips, because there was actually content that can be DMCAed.

Harry was a model officer from day one except the couple times he got really horny

the behind the screens meddling on Voyager may have started WITH 7 of 9. The studio/network was like "Kate Mulgrew isn't hot enough" and "the Ocampa thing is just weird" (granted). "Find someone to breast boobily onto the screen every week". So of course Kate resented Jeri Ryan's presence from day one, because of what she represented.

not to belittle Jeri Ryan tho, she ended up being an amazing talent and did a fantastic job, and she endured a lot as a sort of victim of the studio/network as well. In the show they joke Seven doesn't like to sit because "Borg do not sit" which fair there are no chairs ever seen on a Borg ship, but IRL she was wearing an insane corset that made him boobs look insane but cut into her body such that sitting was either too painful or too dangerous lol
