I knew from day one T1 had taken Thor’s side on the WoW issue. You might know this tho, Im thinking about how I can translate metal properties into Vintage Story existing game mechanics like durability and mining speed

And Im wondering how I could go about that

I was thinking of using the hardness of the piece as a durability multiplier and a speed multiplier, and then using the brittleness as another multiplier for durability

I was gonna use the hardness level as a sort of dampening value for how much strain is inflicted, so the harder the metal the more hits it can take, but also the closer it is to the fracture strain so even if the strain grows way slower, its still less durable because it reaches the fracture point much sooner

Durability would be the combination of how much strain each hit of the tool does and how much strain the metal can handle while still in the plastic region

Do you think that is a good way to go about translating the science to the in game stats?

I usually flip to Minecraft when dealing with mechanics like that. Simple and effective. And using the Steel variants(Carbon, Forged, Stainless, then outlier to that if you wish to use non-steel metals).

I think the math would work out as you describe it

But I'm horrid on the code side to really speak to it in-action.

I think I'd be pretty disappointed to invest in forging an optimal blade type and then smash and break it because it was simply too well-made in-game.

It'd definitely make me just not bother with quality if the barebones gets me 85% of the results each go.
