Thinking about this from backwards, let's assume scenario A: Dev's got a pretty wicked sense of humor; meatcanyon style minus all the horror elements. He decides thor is the new hot cake for his little passion project, thor sees this amidst all the needless hate and flags this as a potential threat and is tied to his likeness. He pressures legal action and now this thing kicks off into another story about thor.

In this scenario, the developer is fairly innocent in intent and thor is simply doing what is in the best interest of his. This ultimately leads to a bigger story and complicates things than it would have if say, thor had done nothing. In this scenario which assumes the developer is not malicious, it makes thor catch more negative attention.
