I'm currently dealing with a work situation and could use some advice on how to handle things. I relocated for a job last year that was supposed to be a hybrid role, only requiring one day in the office per week. However, my team and I were suddenly placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) with new daily in-office requirements. I was on leave until 6 Jan and came back to this.

Despite consistently positive feedback before, during the last 2 weeks I've faced allegations about my performance and timesheet discrepancies and told that I was put in PIP because of it (after the fact). Many of my colleagues have resigned but I want severance and to keep my relocation bonus if they are trying to get rid of us.

Today, I received an email saying unpaid leave was submitted on my behalf for several days I worked fully. My manager didn't communicate with me before this and has displayed unprofessional behaviour, instead of addressing issues constructively. This morning he just told me that I've failed the test we unexpectedly had to take and there were no grading or corrections provided.

I went to see a doctor this morning to try to explain the effects that this has had on my well-being only to be prescribed some anxiety meds and told I need to find another job. In the first week back at work after I'd been on leave (Jan 6-10), I'd lost 5kg and hardly slept for most of the week.

Any advice? I am in Portugal. Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear this is happening to you. What a miserable situation to be in. Unfortunately PIP usually means life will be hell if you stay - no matter how well you do on the PIP. I've also (personally) seen situations where damn good workers were given PIPs because the manager screwed up and needed to cover it up - and those NEVER end well. I can understand your desire for the severance and relocation bonus, but it sounds like you may have to decide which is more important - your health or the money. If it's had that much of an affect on your health in just that one week period, I think it's time to put your health first and find something else. You can always make more money, but you can't get back the time you were miserable and sick because of it. 😦 Edit: if you're a few weeks from getting the bonus, it might be worth it, but if it's months....

I think for the most part, this community did a wonderful job of keeping to themselves and not spreading hate to others.

The issue I am observing is that drama channels continue to milk what happened and have begun digging into Thors past and other things in his life and spreading misinformation about it. That's why the hate train continues to roll.
