The call to run does apply in hardcore WoW, and even moreso in a Guild. The more people die, the less people there are to do the later in-game content, and the less help you'll have getting back to the point you were previously. "RUN RUN RUN RUN" is the call that was made, and that was the call that was followed. Following that call is not something he should be apologising for, especially when you're shouted at afterwards for doing so
