Hey Thor was looking for some advice, I have been working at a local abattoir for the past 6 months nowand have really been enjoying the work however today I went in for work as normal and the had a meeting held. In this meeting we were told that the place was closing down and there would be no work that day or at all and every employee was fired then and there. This has really caused an issue for me as there was no notice and there is no lump some to help accommodate the change,

I live in a small town With little to no other job opportunities for me. I am a single father with a 2 year old daughter. I was offered a job by the company but to take it i'd have to travel accross the country (I live in Australia) and this just isn't viable.
I now need to try and move to the closest city (about 250 KM away) in search of a job but with a bad housing crisis and no income it is going to be a hard task finding accommodation. any advice or tips is greatly appreciated

Folding while I’m not at home

Is it possible to "cap" the folding client to a percentage of CPU these days?

I used it previously but it would use pretty much everything it could and spin up my fans to max causing both noise and heat.

yeah in the settings you choose how much it uses; I think for the CPU it's core-based though, not percentage-based

The folding client is set by default to max out your core/thread count minus 1. The GPU is not enabled by default for folding.

The GPU work requires one core/thread to operate, so in my case, it’s set to 23 cores max. One for the GPU and 22 for the cpu workload. 1 left over to operate the system.

If you set the number of CPUs it can use to only 1 and the GPU is enabled, it will only use the GPU to fold. GPUs are much more powerful and efficient for the amount of work they can do.

Folding on your CPU is nice, but very very inefficient. Unless you’re using a literal Threadripper to fold with.

For anyone curious about the 20 FPS / 44ms is probably Physics TPS.
Server would not send you the number so often with 2 decimal places and Thor already confirmed it not being the game FPS as it is not affected by graphics settings and any FPS limit or VSync.

I don't remember about UE5 but Unity has it as FixedUpdate() in the script with 0.02s / 50 TPS target. They use it for physics (as I understand it, it is separate thread from the rendering one, allowing your CPU to do multiple things at the same time using multithreading).

Anyone wondering about AoC classes and if they add new classes in the future.
They have 8 classes that are also used as sub-classes, making it 64 classes total. You can find the table here.

Adding 1 new class would result in 9x9=81 classes total (17 new ones) but it would also create a technical problem. Most of you are on 64-bit computers so your computer uses 64-bit numbers for most things (usually has the most performance and even true/false toggle values are often stored in those big numbers). You can also use each of those 64 bits to carry separate information, like which class can do/use X (each bit represents a single class combo). 81 values would use the next bigger integer which is 128-bit but that has poor support and performance so I would not expect them to do that.
I have not seen any items limited to specific class so it may not be used but maybe they have some shared spells or something (or there is stuff we don't know about).
The big problem is that using 64 bits won't store Mage only Mage-Mage, Mage-Summoner... for Mage you may use Mage-Mage or all of Mage-* flags or something (have all flags that contain Mage as either Main or Secondary class), otherwise it would require 72 bits bringing it back to 128-bit numbers.

This is just a technical overview of something they may not be using but may interest some of you.

• Development Pipeline - they have it in backlog, this does not mean it will be worked on, just that they have it planned right now
• Backlog - (usually sorted) pile of stuff, hopefully correctly described and ready to be worked on
• Roadmap - similar to Backlog but on a higher level and with "deadlines" (those are usually not written in stone)

Keep in mind that every studio has limited number of developers. Not everyone can do every role and knows everything. They may be some PTO or medical problems that may result in delays.
It would be nice to blame everything on "mismanagement" but even if you hire senior developers, they need to learn on your codebase (game source code, all the tools, workflow...) and it takes time for your current developers.
So if a game is suddenly too popular and they are unable to handle it (like not enough servers), it is not that they are not ready but so far they had one or two people managing that and now they are over-worked to fix it for you. No amount of money or new people will help them, they just need other people out of their way. But other people won't stop what they are doing, they are still getting paid, they need to work.

@stone nacelle It seems that you looked at the profile of the "Anonymous" user and what your screenshot shows is total contribution to Folding@Home regardless of the team contributed to. The actual team contribution is a lot lower. Also note that "Anonymous" is the default user name used upon installing the client. If the users don't change it they end up being "Anonymous" user which then compounds to lots of clients contributing to lots of teams at the same time all under the same singular "Anonymous" user name. Thus you get 8k+ clients in the last 50 days.
