Sony has full control over the game. They own it. AH can negotiate with them to push their position but in the end every decision made has to go through Sony. That's what a publisher is.

I may be wrong, but as far as I am considered. YOU, Arrowhead Games Studios in this case, signed a contract. Everything Sony can, will and is able to do is stated in said contract.

Meaning they signed off on this, its their responsibility as much as it is Sony's in the end of the day.

As far as I understood, they worked on this game since 2015 pretty much, but Near the end the PSN demand came through. Its wild.
And I doubt they expected the level of explosion of people, that made the entire system collapse

But I dont hold too much against Arrowhead, they made their mistakes probably during negotiation, and Im sure Sony is behind the Kernel issue too

Also you have to consider that for sure Sony put forth a LOT of the budget for developing the game during the years it took. There is no way arrowhead supported 8 years of development with the entire team without Sony's financial support.

And CEO said it was requested 6 months before release.

So... The company that has a financial, publishing and basically a chokehold on your game demands this, 6 months before release, and you are screwed. What can you even do?

It sounds like Sony came to them wit this request, and its basically accept their demands, or risk their employees/company. Can they even say no?

Im willing to bet that the Kernel Anti-cheat controversy was not arrowhead choice either.

I don't see why it would be at this point because they tried to do something and then they held their ground and even their own development team was going this is a bad idea so the fans of the game made their voices heard and the dev team go look at this you're destroying your Golden goose. It's in that moment that Sony saw the fans as the enemy and their development team as the friend and if you have those two people telling you the same thing it's always worth at least an investigation and they investigated and so far they've done everything minus the PSN linking but they said they would. It's a very positive step in the right direction. Now we have to see what the dev team says as well

Well I said from the beginning they just wanted to up their PSN numbers and look that's exactly what this was because it made sense from a business perspective and the idea was is you do this on a Friday which is a bad idea and then you come back Monday morning as a hero.. it's really bad business what they should have done was do it on a Monday morning because they could have held out but they chose to do it on a weekend. Honestly I think someone at Sony was left with bad choices so they made the worst one possible and may have gotten themselves demoted or fired because they believed in this project. I've seen it happen in business and in the work that I did with the Pokemon company international/nintendo. Yes it's really really stupid I know but sometimes stupid is all your left with and it works

There are two ruling committees in Pokemon for everything there's the American ruling committee and then there's the Japanese ruling committee.. ultimately at the end of the day the Japanese rolling committee has the final say but most of the time they follow what the Americans set for the rest of the world but the Japanese judges and the tournament organizers have no problem at all reminding American judges and American tournament organizers they can overrule you in a heartbeat.

I think, friday was worst, but monday would have still been the same at the end of the day. I dont know who or what motivated Sonic to push these metrics. But I work at a large company in a management position, and have seen the chain of command passing down rules that get more and more distorted into idiotic things that aim to pad some metric that someone 10 levels above asked about to look at a graph for 5 minutes.

And, there are a lot smarter ways to transform the millions of players to PSN users, not full rate conversion, but it allows you to get the boost.

1)If you link your account, for the next month you get 20% more XP for the next month!
2) If you buy this with your account linked its 0.99$
3) Special cosmetic for PSN Link.

As long as you are careful with laws regarding benefits and whatnot specially in the EU, you could easily have done things like that.

Here's one of the key issues that you bring up "smarter ways". I also work in a big company as well and I have been volunteering with pokémon/nintendo since the early 2000s so I've seen stuff like this go down in person and have been on the receiving end of it personally and professionally like Sony flash the dev team for helldivers 2 was these past few days. A lot of times stupid choices are made by people who don't know or don't understand or don't want to understand.. they just see a goal and they need it done and as for number three they were going to have a special cosmetic for PSN but they won't have that now because of the backlash really I think they'll give it up anyways. You're looking at it from a business perspective. And a very smart one at that.. a lot of video game companies and trading card companies have a lot of people who should not be involved in these areas and have no idea what really goes on outside their corporate structure.

The dumb rules coming from above I have seen it over and over.
I have seen "40hs mandatory Udemy training", that they track on you. So people would just mute-play Udemy courses.
"Mandatory RTO" so a bunch of people quit, and the quality of life from multiple people dropped, performance is worse for many, and headhunting is at an all time high.
Layoffs of high position critical people that put entire projects into jeopardy, that not even location managers knew where the decision was made.
And many more of the style, choices of people who are so disconnected on the impact of what they decide because they just want their nice metrics.

You know used to back in the day they used to send cease and desist to websites like serebii for Pokemon and a few others and you could get banned from official Pokemon / Nintendo tournaments for even bringing it up if they told you not to and i actually had to kick a few people out over the years for bringing it up at different tournaments. Tpci/Nintendo takes petty to another level and even nowadays they will file a police reports to the point to where the cops have raided card stores with SWAT teams. My personal favorite was a card store that got raided and they found some very awful things in that card store but it was all started because someone found fake Pokemon cards in the store. It was the FBI, US Marshals, Texas state troopers, Texas rangers (. Yes like Walker Texas ranger from Chuck Norris) and local police departments... Started because of fake Pokemon cards.

I disagreed with his take but understood it. Though I felt he was misdirected towards AH because of the CM comments and general situation, when it was mostly Sony forcing the issue out of their control.
I assumed the situation was probably shaky in-doors with Sony, and the CEO comments confirmed it.

One thing that's always funny to older Pokemon players especially VGC players. For the longest time they told us that Pokemon games would never be allowed at Pokemon worlds and this was coming from tpci ( the pokémon company international) and Nintendo... Well if you look at any of the bigger tournaments like North American championships and Pokemon worlds of course... Nintendo employees run the VGC side basically and volunteers who are picked in a bunch of different but legitimate ways that help out the tpci run the TCG side and then you have the guys that run Pokemon go... Two out of three are video games that were " never going to be used in a professional tournament setting".. oh and by the way that was told to me at the time by the head of tpci in a Pokemon judge meeting at Pokemon worlds 2005.

Only cuz Greenland are a part of Denmark, but have there own public domain of ".gl" and not ".dk" as Denmark have. Same with us from Åland Islands. We have our public domain of ".ax" instead of ".fi" as Finland would have. And for that reason Steam sees us as our own country instead of a part of our real country.

That's why we are able to create our own psn profiles as SONY sees us as a part of our "main lands" but Steam don't sees us in that way
