Depending on the games you play you can also think about a Linux gaming setup. Most distros will give old hardware a good bit of performance for most games ( Not all work though and it might be fidgety; haven't been following the conversation just wanted to put Linux in there 🤣 ) It does work though and Nobara Linux for instance can give about 20% more performance to a windows native game without any knowledge of Linux required. So if performance with old hardware is an issue, this might be a potential 'live extender'

I'm on a RTX 3080 on PopOS. I do have my fair share of problems. Especially with drivers. It works, Hogwarts Legacy for instance pulls easy 60FPS on Ultra iwht Ultra RayTracing; Next time I'm definitely gonna go full AMD. Removed windows a few months ago. Everything I play works in Linux by now

read the release notes, and i know from past fixes what the issue is probably having trouble handling the amount of environmental effects stable enough so it freezes up, AMD been fixing a lot of issues regarding this, their also some other games triggering visual bugs right now, like throwing a smoke grenade in cod turns screen black for some users

Well as Thor mentions all the time. It ain't hard. Just looking at some OpenSource projects and getting into transtlations gets you closer. At some point just being involved in some way in the projects might give you the motivation you need to learn the few bits to fix one Issue; then the next and before long you can work a lot :D

I get it. Have that too. My programming career only really took off because I started studying it 🤣 Before then I could script and all but I also lacked motivation to really get into it. Look through the stuff Thor provided on the discord and take a look on github projects, there may be issues there that get you the motivation. And btw: Reporting issues on Opensource projects is already a contribution to the project so just be a user for a while and eventually you might get it

That's really awesome. I heard rust is coming into that area as well. There's alot of little projects that can get you into Hardware. Hacking for instance is one. You can just take apart devices and try and get stuff out of it. ( People hacked a Google Nest device for instance, to allow to boot form an external USB and install Linux on it. )
Another one I find incredibly interesting is 3d Printing. There's the Opensource Octoprint so build your own 3D printer out of preassembled parts and using opensource firmware for all of it might be a really fun way of starting as well :D
