I'm a little confused at @minor nymph saying it's safe to play apex. Here is how I see things from the perspective of someone in industry with 10+ years of experience:

There was a confirmed breach where ImperialHal and GenBurten had hacks activated on their computer, potentially via server side script or by a client side hack program being put on their computer.

From my security knowledge (which is not insignificant), there are a couple of ways for this hack to have happened:

  • Their computers were compromised, then putting the hack there is no problem, and explains things.

  • The hack was put on their computer by a client side RCE and activated

  • A server-side vulnerability allowed something like squirrlel scripting on the source engine to enable hacks (does source have an aimbot though?)

I understand Pirate's view of "I don't trust something without proof" and in general I agree with that approach.

Here though and in security in general, it would seem irresponsible to not treat the 3 possibilites as valid threats up until the time you can rule them out very confidently.

This is the same logic used to prefer allow-lists to block-lists in my mind.

So when I say I'm avoiding Apex because of potential RCE, it doesn't mean I think RCE is confirmed, but it's a credible threat which cannot yet be ruled out.

What I do know, is that one of these things was necessary from the hack, unless there is something I'm overlooking. So there is some risk, it's just not quite yet quantified. So it's safest to assume each is true to avoid falling victim to one of them.

Personal risk tolerance of course comes into view in the last part, but if you are going to take a security conscious position it seems difficult to argue for "it's safe to play Apex".

it's also a matter of observed damage; we can't confirm the streamer's computers were compromised individually. So we cannot confirm an RCE. It could be tho.

No other players have been affected (that I know, correct me if I'm wrong).

Therefore, for the time being, you can take the precaution and not play. Or play, since for the time being nothing wrong has happened

Security requires something different for most people though I think. For instance, do you know if Thor would open Apex on a computer with sensitive information on it right now? rated on par with most mid range routers. Plus in terms of wifi, got wifi 6, gig up and down fiber and even wifi extenders. also wifi6 connected.

Doesnt matter for my pc though, it's hooked to the router with cable, Cat 7, not even a few months ago installed. i might suspect that my bathroom is just a bunker.

For what it's worth, with a good home connection I actually managed to operate Steam Link with reasonable reaction times over a distance of ~1500km. Played stuff on my phone in a whole other city. Some games weren't playable, and I suspect something like helldivers would not be. But it was still good enough for a lot of things

I hope Beans is doing ok, had a flash back on one of the Cats my wife used to have. the cat was called sootie and had to put the cat down due to the loss of mussel mass she had in her hind legs she was 21 years old at that point and age was catching up to her. her health started to decline 6 to 8 month prior to putting her down it got to the point where she wasnt able to run jump, not eating and began to hide. it was heartbreaking

The quest is in a category of your choosing, usually art, cooking and poetry are some of the options, but Thor likes to mix it up.

The quest usually involves making something weird involving Thor's face or a specific idea he had or what chat has been obsessing about

You have unlimited time to complete the quest ( within reason) and have to submit it through a ticket on discord

Thor and chat view it on stream and then chat votes whether it is cursed enough or not.
