This module consists of two parts, a monotone 3x3 Rubik’s Cube (which can be in 16 different colours), and a Skewb (see image below)

One square on the top face of the 3x3 Rubik’s Cube will be a tad darker then the rest. This indicates where you are in one of the many 3x3 mazes. Rotating the back, right, front, and left faces of the module will move you through it, but as to what direction they move you exactly is based off of the center pieces of the Skewb initially. You can try and guess, but its not recommended.

The Skewb can only be interacted with when you’re in a corner of any of the 3x3 mazes. This will launch you into another 3x3 maze indicated by the 3x3’s colour. The maze will also reorientate itself indicated by the top face of the 3x3 Rubik’s Cube.

The goal? Solve the Skewb.

To make it easier, the whole Skewb can be rotated to view a specific face without the fear of striking.

And nothing about this one 🙁

Didn't know what a Skewb was before so understanding it took me quite a while

The Skewb as I understand it is a "Rubik's Cube" of sorts, except that it turns diagonally
You have to solve a 3x3 maze to input one movement into the Skewb, then another 3x3 maze for one more movement, rince and repeat until the Skewb is solved.
Each time you enter a maze, the UDLR movements are randomized (though identifiable).

But unlike the Rubik's Cube module, there is no help on how to solve the Skewb so you have to rely on logic, knowledge, or online tutorials/methods.

Am I understanding it correctly?

For the manual I think the beginner and intermediate tutorials for the skewb should be linked

#

Somewhere on there

idk how I feel about linking tutorials on the web (on top of the copyright problems and potential maintaining issues since that's dependent on external videos)
I'm not sure how popular the original Rubik's Cube module was if it was just "solving a Rubik's Cube using the web: the module"

doesn't mean it translates well in KTANE in its entirety; but that's just my opinion

nova mirage

Fair

stoic valve
#

the fact that you can do a Rubik's Cube regularly while having an actual intended solution being more "KTANE-ish" is a great compromise

#

KTANE fans that don't know/like the Rubik's Cube solving process can still do it
but defusers who know can solo one since it works the same way

Maybe there should be a step by step for the Skewb on the manual? But that would require more work

stoic valve
#

Maybe not a complete step-by-step, but an abriged version that is only possible in certain scenarios that you ensure are the starting positions of the Skewb?

#

like it doesn't start completely randomly scrambled, but only has a few steps missing, like the Rubik's Cube manual

#

if the complete step-by-step tutorial is a lot of work, then inputting it via a 3x3 maze (that is invisible to the defuser?) for each move is going to be even more work too...

It will shift colours upon making a move on the Skewb

#

(But only on the corners)

stoic valve
#

yeah I understand that shift

I'm not sure I'm the target for this kind of module tbh

I'd personally look more for deviations on the Skewb, like using the Skewb as an input method itself, or maybe a Polymaze-ish module where the maze is the Skewb and you rotate it to move the walls around

nova mirage
#

If you want

#

No pressure

stoic valve
#

it's just my opinion, you don't have to do that ^^

#

it's your module, I am not necessarily right at all

nova mirage
#

Well, thats if I get the resources to do so lol

#
  • idk how to code yet
stoic valve
#

There are tutorials and ressources in #mod-resources, and I'm sure people in #mod-creation could point you to good tutorials & stuff for creating modules

Like… a computer…

stoic valve

oh, oh yeah

#

that's something for sure...

And blender

And the help

(Which is all currently out of my reach)

In hindsight, I realize that I criticized unfairly your concept without even asking if you were looking for feedback... that was really unkind of me. I'm sorry

nova mirage

Its alright

It’s appreciated tho

@stoic valve your criticism is appreciated btw dw
