#unable to connect to dedicated server
15 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
currently i have this, i followed this tutorial https://wiki.trackmania.io/en/dedicated-server/Setup/Windows to get to this point
make sure your ports are forwarded properly in your router
thats something i hadnt done yet, ill look into it when im back home
yeah it's really a needed step, to explain a bit of tech the game tries to reach the address of the server, but if your port isn't forwarded by your router, it will only reach the router and not the machine hosting the server
ah okay
Good afternoon, I see that there is a post of not connecting to the dedicated server. Now I am a couple of days looking at a problem where I used ai and my it-skills as an developer. Filling some json or xml or building something in .NET is somthing common sense. The network engineering part is something where I am missing some knowledge. I have followed the tutorial on https://wiki.trackmania.io/en/dedicated-server/Setup/Windows and get the server started, but is only reachable on my private network. The ports are forwarded, because I installed the tool 'Port Forward network Utilities' and look if the port 2350 till 2450 are open and they are.
Windows firewall has been turned off. And I don't have a virusscanner on the machine.
In the dedicated_cfg.txt I have filled the xml element 'force_ip_address' with my public IP address and tried a lot of things in de dedicated_cfg.txt file to get the server reachable for my friends. But I am not able to get it done.
What kind of information do you need of me to help me? Because I am desperate to use a vpn connection, to make it just work. But according the documentation this shouldn't be needed.
Hopefully you can help me. 😇

This is what I have when I starting the server.
dont put your login and password in the command line arguments
please put them in the dedicated_cfg.txt file
if you want the server to be available for others, you need to create a club and in that club create a room that links to your dedicated server
as for the ports, I'd recommend changing the game port from 2350 to something like 2351 or 2352, because when the game is open, it by default listens to port 2350
it could be that while you port forwarded in your router and your firewall is disabled that people still cannot join your server
in that case, your Internet Service Provider employs a stupid practice named Carrier-Grade NAT, which means it bundles a bunch of end users under the same public IPv4. in that case, you will never be able to port forward, unless you can convince your provider to give you a public ipv4 that isn't behind CGNAT
