It just feels frustrating, to not be allowed to queue constructions and constantly have to keep the tab open or listen to a future sound, instead of focusing on the game.

I second this, a build queue would be an amazing feature to have. It's a really good qol feature to have

While I love QoL stuff and can absolutely understand where you're comming from, in practice, I have to disagree.
The construction time is long enough, so you only occasinally need to place a new structure and a lot of game mechanics, such as the expansion radius are reliant on not to be able to queue buildings. You could also probably abuse the ability to queue constructions to block enemy units and in the end, the game will become even more fiddly. So, as much as I would want to queue buildings, the downsides outweigh the benefits.
However, there is an actual problem hidden in not being able to queue. And that is that for each second you're not constructing is a forever lost second. Which is the one niche in the game, where APM totally matter. Therefore, I suggest a "grace" period of not-constructing which will be deducted from the build-time.
I made a post on steam about this:

There is a feature that has been requested, which I think is simultanously a good and a bad idea, and I'd like to give you my extended take on this. It's about queing buildings. Basically, the idea to allow the queue of multiple buildings in a row. And it kind of make sense as people will want to for example, queue 4 radars right away to make a ...

I really like your grace idea.

Just like you can build a HQ in the shadow, build queuing, would be "naive" so to speak. When trying, and unable, it would simply say so.

And I already think the build time is way to slow. When able, I always play the sped up mod. Which does indeed reduce the problem, as I can don't have to sit and wait.

And what you see as niche, is just not fun. There's nothing fun about trying to balance the game, by having to constantly watch the build tab.

People has even made a mod, for you to be able to see what is being build, so you don't have to. Trying to fix the UI issue.

There's just no fun in watching the build tab. And no upside.

APM is in fact missed, because I now have to watch the build tab instead of managing my units. Which should be the fun part. Not building being a loss does not make it more fun. The game would absolutely be more fun with build queue.

You can multi build remote headquarters, you can queue movements, you should be able to queue building.

It also lends itself to other game mods. Like tower wars or whatever.

The game is now a wait and quickly! BUILD game. That's not the fun part of this game, if you ask me. 🙂

I rather enjoy the slow build time, but it is somewhat a matter of taste. The fact that you can build units rather fast, but buildings only slow does two things. First, it keeps the base expanding to a slow-but-steady degree. Other RTS games escalate quite quickly, but this keeps the pacing of classic c&c. Second, buildings feel like level-up choices now. I always have to think which building to place next, which is the most urgent? There's no perfect build order, you always have to adapt to the situation, I think that's great and the slower building times underline that.
