Oof
I need help lowering my standards from watching tech youtubers for years
4 Cores is still fine for gaming yeah? If not whats the lowest you’d recommend if I’m also recording a game sometimes?
RTX 4050 looks good enough for me, but I’m worried am I shooting too low or does it actually perform fine for 1080P?
16GB is fine right??
For the cpu, knowing your budget would be helpful. Is the 4050 6GB of vram? and is that 16GB question for ram?
4050 is 8GB
And yeah 16GB is ram
Also does super high vram amounts actually matter unless you’re doing like high resolutions and settings?
I have the 3060TI and wish I had more than 8GB vram. It does handle 1080p really well though. Some newer games I have had to lower settings on. If I were buying a gpu I'd probably see if there were any AMD cards with more vram for a simliar price to the 4050.
16gb ram is fine for most games, can always upgrade it later if need be.
4050 so this is a laptop you are looking at then
oh I did not realize the 4050 was a laptop gpu only. my bad
Also nowadays I wouldn't go below 6 cores
It confuses me as well
Just like how the laptop 4090 actually uses the 4070 desktops die
Fuck
Actually
Hold up I might be wrong
Nope nvm it doesnt
4070 desktop uses AD104-250-A1
The 4090 mobile uses AD103
Oh damn
the 4090 mobiles gpu is 22% bigger than the desktop 4070
Yeah i wish they kept the M naming
Saying 4050M would be a lot easier and I used to say M anyways but tech nerds in a server i was in kept getting pissed
And yeah am looking at a laptop
I realized I should go to schooling still and in that case i’d be a waste to do a desktop then get a laptop seperate
Luckily I’ve changed a few things to make my video process lighter
I record with obs instead of fraps so i can use nvenc and dont need to handbreak a video over night
Dont use audacity to record so thats just free resources
And switched from Vegas and to Premiere which uses hardware better
My i7-7700 is working fine which is why i figured 4 Cores was still good
Wait I realized pretty much every laptop I’d get is gonna be good
Cause I need a dGPU obviously, but even something either a RTX 4050 or RX 7600S which are both good enough for me I think usually get paired with a Ryzen 7 7735HS or something
This is the cheapest laptop still new that I could find with a dGPU, dude this is so pog https://a.co/d/9c6HDSd
4P and 4E cores?? An actual Gpu??
Intel Arc cards are actually looking really good
Hello everyone, I’ve got a few questions about the „steam deck“… is it possible to play online games with it (warframe, Monster Hunter, DBD, etc.) or can you only play non online games with it? And are all Steam available games playable or is there a certain „requirement“ needed for games to function on the steam deck? Or should I save for a gaming PC?
You can play online games, just that game needs to be supported. I would personally recommend saving up for a PC or even get an MSI Claw since that's never and better hardware if you really need the portability
def save up, at least for a “gaming” laptop if not for a desktop
also, steam should have a note about whether a game is supported by steam deck or not
Ok thx for the clarification
I’ll save up. I just really need it for when MH wilds comes out
So I’ve got a couple months left to save up
You also don't need that amazing of a computer
Don't let the tech bros make you think you need anything crazy
This computer brand new with today's prices will run you $730 and you'll get a really good experience
If you need help with a laptop we can help out too!
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GxcC34
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
for example, this is what it looks like in the mobile app on the page for team fortress 2
Thx, definitely will look into it
I’ll keep that in mind when I get one
hey so, idk where to ask this, but are these specs good/ok for a gaming & school work computer?
"Preowned gaming pc for sale
Specs: gtx 1080, i7 8700k, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd
Will throw in asus 24.5 inch monitor 144hz 1ms response 1080p" ???
seems solid, what’s the power supply in it?
Yeah pretty goodn
don't know? I just copy and pasted the description available to me. should I ask that?
thank you!
How much are you buying it for?
Its asking price is like, 350, with a monitor bc the guy's been trying to get rid of it for a while it looks like
Yeah that’s a steal
I7 8700K is 6 cores which is minimum people recommend nowadays, 8th generation so it supports windows 11
16GB is good for gaming
And that GTX 1080 is still a good card
Also that Asus monitor is basically free at that price
No problem!
@shell notch river inspired me lol. I can get an i5-8500 for about $45 so I wouldn’t need to make a full new computer, that sound like a good buy to you? (This was via a quick ebay search)
Or join them and get a 8700
if i were you i would. cheap psu can hobble and even endanger an otherwise good computer
Are there pictures you can send us from their listing? (Sorry i didnt notice they asked about that earlier)
srry lol i’m sporadically checking disc while at work
I asked, i'll let you know when/if he answers
uhhh yeah, one sec
Also dont ask until after the pictures cause it can save you a message if its clear its a good power supply
already kinda did? sorry, i just sent it with my "is this available" msg
Android pog! But yeah go ahead and ask theres a cover on it
Lol
Also make sure to clean the inside a bit with a brush, she’s a bit dusty
absolutely, i have like 72 different allergies, she'll get a nice dusting before she gets to my room
Hell yeah
if the guy, y'know, ever answers me, and it is still available, it is unfortunately fb marketplace
In that case look up how to take the fans and graphics card out so you can go ham on those outside the case (that’s way easier btw to get all the fan blades
Yeah true lol
You have a 7th gen right?
If you have a 7th gen cpu and you are looking at a 8th gen you need a new motherboard
8th gen isn't backwards compatible with sockets using the 200 and 100 series chipsets
Because cash grab
That was at a time when ryzen wasn't as big as it is now
So intel didn't care
They didn't have to because it was the same amount of pins
It's still lga 1151
Similar to how ryzen 1000 couldn't be used on 500 series boards and ryzen 5000 couldn't be used on 300 series board
Actually no
That's not a proper comparison
Amd had an actual reason why they wouldn't support ryzen 5000 on 300 series initially
But then they changed it I think
It simply dropped support for a bunch of the 1000 series through a beta bios because the chip itself that contained the information about the cpus filled up
Amd is a thing
They kept am4 around for a while
IIRC you actually didnt
I think you needed that beta bios for older boards
But like amd gave us like what 4.5 generations of cpus in a single socket?
I say 4.5 because of the ryzen 4000 series which I think was oem only
But regardless amd won alot of people over because of how long they supported am4
I say the .5 because ryzen 4000 is still the same zen 2 architecture as ryzen 3000
They were simply the zen 2 based apus
But I believe amd already had a ryzen 3000G series based on zen+
I don't remember at the point amd was kinda stupid with it apu naming scheme
Still is though
Hence why amd went from 7000 to 9000
Because the 8000 series was the zen 4 apus
Sorry I just go off the architecture itself
But I'll say 5 if it's easier for everyone else
?
Are you saying because of the time that intel spent making just quad cores
No they did
People just didn't want to by the X series to get more than 4 cores
Because intel refused to make anything more the 4 core cpus on mainstream
I could be wrong
Actually there was a time when intel used the same basic naming
It was for 4th/5th gen
Because I forget why but intel didn't actually release a 5000 series on mainstream
That's simply why you see the 90 at the end of some 4000 series cpus
IIRC
Oh
They apparently made a 5000 series cpu
It was like 2 cpus
And this is my first time hearing about them
Give me a second I'm curious now
Ok I get it
The cpus with the 90 at the end were devils canyon based cpus devils canyon being a refresh of haswell which is what 4th gen uses
This is all before my time of when I got interested in technology btw
Basically anything before zen came out is iffy for me
Because I've tried reading up on these things
And I hear different things
So MB
Ughhhh technology is confusing
And I keep hearing about more shit about future intel cpus
Same thing with amd gpus
Then you have the shit with 50 series apparently going up in tbp
Tbp- total board power
I even saw this on seasonics website ffs
Now as for why it was on the psu configurator I have no idea
I haven't said anything about them. I simply said I heard stuff about them
Trying to avoid talking about rumors like I used to
The 50 series thing I simply saw when browsing seasonics psu configurator
So idk what that was about just found it interesting
Ummm
Trying to think has there been any other news I've actually heard
Mmmmm
Oh yeah there was those new power supplies asus released
Using some GaN MOSFET
Idk what that is
But yeah
Alright I'm outta here
As it turns out my GTX 970 does NOT work
It appears you have the checkered edition.
blackwell before it got delayed be like
Computer said "we got minecraft at home"
i do too lol:
“not worth what would be a very expensive repair”
any diagnosis beyond that is extra
with that being said, the VRAM is likely on its deathbed
if ur lucky, it’s just that the card needs to be reseated in the pcie slot (according to reddit)
Intel arc users be like “there’s only a few driver issues”
Actually maybe, this pcie slot doesnt have the lock
But I don’t wanna take the 960 put again to put back in the questionable 970
I'll do it :)
@shell notch If I can only use 1 case can (CPU fan is stock cooler) should I have it in the front of the PC or back? Front right?
Front
You vs who she tells you not to worry about:
why does this feel suprisingly accurate for me
Ew
what the board in the pc i built is a micro atx board
I don’t want to know this detail about you
and a friend i helped build his pc has an atx board
i dont see the issue my pc with a ryzen 7 5700x has a micro atx board in it
because it was cheaper
you ever heard of mini dtx boards?
Nope
For tomorrow I get to use the weirdest configured PC of all time
It's my stepdad's old PC cause my cooler broke
Ryzen 5 1600
16GB, 4x4GB at 2133MHz??? Why so slow on a Ryzen system??
and a AMD Radeon R9 "380 Series" whatever that means
ryzen 1000 had an issue with running memory speeds even as low as 2400mts
its not widely used as ive only seen like a few boards use it but its like mini itx but a little taller
from what i remember ryzen 1000 supported ddr4 3000 but you needed samsung B dies for it and even then it wasnt always a guaranteed thing. being that ryzen 1000 was AMDs first time making a cpu with a ddr4 memory controller they were gonna have issues.
Ok
I hated installing it lol
let me guess the worst part was the fan wasnt it
ohhhh
i was gonna say for me the worst part was installing the fan
i legit used a screw driver to pull the clip over the last little bit XD
That part was actually super easy
I actually cut my finger on the heatsink while trying to do it XD
Wha
Yup
Also I may or may not have chewed someone out for buying a 35$ psu
His reasoning was because he wanted to play
So I told him that when the psu dies and takes the rest of his pc with it I don't want to hear it
Being that the 1 thing you should never cheap out on is the psu
I later sent him a link to the psu tier list so he can look later on if he so like
I then also helped him put his pc back together over text
Actually I shouldn't say I chewed him out but I didn't like that he didn't wait for someone to give him a suggestion to a psu
Also could've just looked up "good power supply" on amazon and probably would've gotten a corsair or something
Yea
This is the one he found

I put that exact psu in my dad's computer XD
35$ btw
Granted
His stuff is a few generations old so some people may not care if the pc dies since the parts are a little old
There's an MSI Mag one that's like $55, i'd do with that
But the dude doesn't make a whole lot of money
What is that supposed to mean?
Just cause it's a bit old it's worthless??
So I don't want his entire pc to die and then not have the money for new parts
So people view it like that yes
Like the dude could get a cheap ryzen 5000 cpu and like a 4060 and he would be fine
This is his current thing
From what he sent
Which isn't bad
The weakest part is the gpu
But otherwise it still plays the games he wants
I hope you didn't tell him that his computer is worthless
So I just didn't want him to make a not so smart decision just because he's impatient
I never did
Nor did I ever imply that
the gpu is still pretty good
It's lacking vram and is overall pretty weak especially for newer titles
4GB might be limiting but outside of VRAM scenarios like in more multiplayers games its gonna be good enough
Also depends on resolution
From what I understand he's at 1080
I'm sure with a 1650S they're on 1080
But regardless he's asked me about my 5700xt before a couple of times
Yeah so in that case it's gnna be good for a good amount of games outside of newer AAA games
And I've told him I'll sell it to him for 120$
Those talks never really went anywhere because he baby rages alot
But he comes around
So yeah
I hope he doesn't actually use that 35$ psu
Actually if he stopped spending money on anime waifus he could save up money for a new system
Tell him to get a refund when it comes in
Maybe a 1650S is good for what games they play
And they don't feel the need to
Idk
Up to him
He does what he wants I just want him to know the offer is always there if he ever wants it
I'm content on my GTX 970 right now even if you'd think it's unusable just cause the games I'm playing right now don't need super good horsepower to enjoy
As I rather sell it to him than so random person idk since yk I play with the dude and we get along pretty well
Except Helldivers 2 which sadly would run bad on here
Oooof
I've never played helldivers 2
I'm looking at 1070s
I have 2 friends I'd play with
I wanna get an Asus TUF with like a 4060 even I get a new computer
My opinion is my opinion if it's fine for what you need then that's good and that's what matters
What games do they even play anyways?
Good question
Ummmm
Let me think from the few I've seen him play
World of warships, destiny 2, escape from tarkov, modded minecraft. Ummmmmm maybe some others that I just don't remember but that's all I can think of rn
Yeah a 1650S is perfect for those
Apparently he also plays warframe
Minecraft uses like 0 GPU, a GeForce 8800 GTX can get 90 FPS which is more than oyu need for that game
Destiny 2 idk honeslty but I ran it on like UHD 620 back when it came out alright
Never played Tarkov and WoW shouldn't be that intensive
Forgot that game even existed
Also Warframe shouldn't be heavy either since that's kinda an old game
Wows honestly I forget even though I play the game
I get like 100fps at 4k with a 6800xt
High settings
Why play at 4K?
My dad simply bought 2 4k smart tvs
That's his pc
My tuf a16 is 1440p
But I don't actually use my tuf that much because my connection on that thing is weird
I also need glasses for it
He wasn't aiming to play at 4k the tvs simply are 4k tvs
Since 4k smart tvs are not super expensive for the screen size and he doesn't care about high refresh rate
He likes it, when he's not home I use it since it's easier on my eyes
It's actually because of his setup that makes it hard for my to use my tuf a16 since I'm used to the larger screen size
yk if the gpu manufactures actually connected the io bracket to the cooler better they wont sag
fuck evga did it with the 3090ti
@shell notch Sometime cam you run your laptop on some sort of CPU intensive test like 10 minutes of cinabench and lmk how the thermals hold up? The 7940HX is cool but I’m worried about how cooling would be on a 16 Core laptop chips that stomps an older threadripper
If it gets insanely hot then a Ryzen 7 7735H is still good for me lol
Sure I don't mind I just have to install cinabench
Remember it also depends on the laptop setup
Don't forget HWMonitor for CPU temps
What fan mode do you want
Also just run with it sitting on a table and not like a best case scenario where it's like in tent mode with a fan blowing at it
Fan mode?
Yeah the laptop has a couple of fan modes
The fans can spin up to like 6800 rpm
Let me go see what they are called
Silent, performance or turbo
so which mode do you want for the reference
Performance
ok
want multicore i assume?
Yeah lol
ok just checking
ya good
And for reference it's just sitting on my desk
Fan speed is at 3900 rpm in performance mode
4 minutes left
FUCK
I CLICKED THE WRONG ONE
Ehhh fuck it let it heat soack
Soak
**
No wonder why it was taking so long to render
It was in fucking single core mode XD
Wow this laptop really let the cpu shooting to 90c before ramping the fans
Within 2½ minutes it went through 5 passes
Looking at it performance mode may not be enough
Max of 93.9C
Average of 84.6c
Minimum of 78c
@dense gale yk what im gunning for that threadripper give me 10 minutes XD
I fiddled around in asus armory crate and basically told the cpu it can draw like 135w
Woah
In the run I posted the limit was set to 110w
In response to that I cranked the fans to 90%
the next run is 1000 points worse XD
I wonder how bad my PC would be with cinabench lol
Lol
Rn I have the i5-6500 for a bit til my friend gets that i7-3770 then I'd put my i7-7700 back in cause I need to help her with that lil upgrade, and just using this cause I felt like it lol and it's not doing too bad unless I try to play like Fortnite
With a max of 58C thanks to this cool Hyper 212 cooler!
I'm gonna do this again when I put the i7-7700 back in
Lol
When you realize my laptop cpu beat a server cpu
Or is this a HEDT cpu
Nah it's a xeon so it has to be server
Granted it's a 6 year old cpu
But it's still a cpu with 50% more cores and can draw like 50% more power
Actually that's just what's it's rated at
It could drae more than 205w
I need to run that test again to see how much power the 7940HX was drawing
Can you just let it draw as MUCH power as you can?
asus armory crate has limits so normally by default the apu can hit 135w but for like only 2 seconds and then like 125w for like 10 seconds and 110w with no time limit
i can raise the no time limit to 135w
but heck even when it was set to 110w i only saw it drawing like 50w
granted that could just be the fact that i cant read hwinfo to save my life
but like i raised the power limit earlier when i did that second run but the score went down
Wish I had a K cpu, this cooler could do so much
and i dont understand why
the only thing i can think of is the fans not actually going to 90% at like 80c like i told them to
granted i was listening to music on my headphones while cleaning up after my puppies so i couldnt hear it
but ill go try it real quick
So doing it in turbo mode and it's running at like 4.3ghz on all 16 cores
Holy shit
And it's averaging 100w rn
Here's a bit
It briefly switches to single core to load up the new pass
So then like 15 of the cores drop to like 2.7ghz while the other core spikes to 5.1ghz
Then once the test is actually going is when I see that 4.3ghz ish
Cpu fan rn is at like 5900 rpm
How do you check your RPM?
In asus armory crate
Ok so
The test is finished
Keep in mind this is just in turbo mode so besides fan speeds idk if it does anything to the cpu
Ok so I went into manual mode
So now the cpu is going at 4.5ghz on all 16 cores
Cinebench thinks I'm on windows 10
How do I find my Fan's RPM?
ok this is full tilt
i have no idea with older boards
Well where is it on yours?
i used asus armory crate its a software that you can get from asus's website
it came preinstalled on this laptop
well i dont know for that
Found somone who said my "8GB Isn't Enough" opinion well
Is or isn't because they sound like they are saying it is just turn down the settings
That's it
Games already look insanely good at Medium settings nowadays, in most cases I've seen I can't tell a difference between High and Ultra other than the lower frame rate
imo it really just depends on the game
some games want more vram than the others
just the way it is
It's mostly newer AAA games
I got told I was stupid for wanting to get a 4060 if the majority of games I'm playing are Minecraft, Stardew, and Fortnite with some friends lol
lol
If someone said that to me, I'd object. There's no need for the clarification. Anything after "stupid" is redundant, and quite frankly, the "friends" part is insulting.
???
huh?
I joke that clarifiers are unnecessary when calling me stupid, and friends willing to put up with my antics while playing.
But as an addendum, if you play higher-demanding mod packs in Minecraft, you should take that into account.
I don't think modpacks use vram, it's regular ram I think they use. And I just play regular
Shaders can use a good bit of vram
I hate people that say that shit
Like you can mod the FUCK out of minecraft and stardew
Also, who cares? It's your money.
Who's to say you don't wanna play other games at some point. You then have so much wiggle room
Sounds like someone who thinks they're a tech junkie elitist, but is actually a dumbass
maxed out minecraft with shaders is the best thing
I make my PC PURRRR runnin cobblemon on max
Speaking of that the owner still hasn't contacted me for payment or discuss future stuff like we discussed
as you should
also what owner? what did i miss?
Of Mythical since I've been partnered with them. Hopefully he's just busy, but I've tried to mention it 2x now
“You should just get the 4070 Super for the best value or RX 7800 XT, and you’re stupid for having a distrust in a company that burnt you before” -literally everyone when i was in the LTT server i talked too
I have yet to touch modded outside of iris for shaders and oh man it scares me, theres SO much out there
We used Complimentary Shaders the last few times and I liked it quite a bit. Wasn't too much visually, which was nice
Oh yeah those are my favourite! My poor 960 can’t manage a smooth frame rate so they come on if I’m having a cinematic moment and wanna feel cool
I started using Minecraft shaders and I am never going back
the create mod or whatever mod adds all those mechanisms seemed really cool
but yeah i have yet to touch solo modded outside of shaders
Create is fun as long as you play solo, otherwise it lags the FUCK out of the server for everyone
My brain is having a hard time playing with shaders even of they’re lighter on my PC. I’ve played so long without any that my brain screams at me when I use them lol like “what is this??? Lighting in MY geometry game???”
oh yeah the trees/grass wiggling in my shaders sometimes catches me off guard
The trees wiggle made me nauseous, have to turn that off
Lol
I’m realizing i worded this wrong
Like i meant they’re like “its stupid” cause the 4060 is “the worst card ever” apparently and not cause my games aren’t demanding 😅 Oops sorry for the confusion!
oh, well the other thing you didnt mean is also stupid lol
True
but also people calling any current gen card (or really any recent card) bad is just ...
Although I’d be fine with a GTX 1650
The only thing RTX I’d want is Minecraft’s RTX cause it’s pretty but only like one play through 😂
yeah idk what to think about RT. i think my card supports it? but i dont use it
I know on some cases the GTX 1080 Ti can brute force it even wothout the actual RT cores
Absolute beast
Honestly idk my standards for a computer and it sucks
Something that sucks about laptop stuff is the lack of benchmarks
I found no benchmarks for the RX 7700S online and a tower is hella annoying to deal with
this is the site i usually use
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+RX+7700S&id=4887
tho recently i havent been worrying about benchmarks ... its just too much info
like i really dont care if i can get 5 more fps from ... idk an msi gpu vs an xfx gpu (of the same model)
I use that site for CPUs but don’t like their GPU section
For example, it only had GTX 960… which one? There’s a 2GB and 4GB
Also sometimes they give the score and none of the data above it
CPUs its generally a lot better
Another thing was my GTX 650 Ti is a 1GB model and they only have a 2GB listed
The GPU section seems a bit lacking
idk when they started it but maybe its cuz they have less info on older cards
Well my previous laptop has finally kicked the bucket
I mostly used it for reading
But one of the fans started making weird noises out of no where to the point it woke me up
Because I would leave it on
And when I went to close it the screen kicked the bucket
So I've moved my new laptop into my room
I’m actually thinking about getting a RTX 2060
For like $130
Or 2070 Super for $150-$170
Depends on money when i have a job
Yeah 700 is insane
For no disc drive either ....
And it's even bigger than the regular ps5 😭
I love Jack's reaction haha
He said he's one of the people who can see the difference in graphics and he said in their presentation there was like not that big a difference lol
I can't wait for this to come out and hopefully the base will drop a lot lol
Yeah I think it will lol
vertical stand not included
Yup that's separate also
good thing i recently got me a new laptop
oh one thing i never pointed out
even though this laptop i have now is a 16 inch laptop it has a smaller footprint compared to my previous laptop even though that one was a 15 inch
Bad gamer new, PC fell
Gonna save you the big details but here's the main things
240GB SSD + 2TB HDD --> 240GB SSD (HDD Sata connector broke)
GTX 960 --> GTX 650 Ti (960 artifacted like crazy)
Case broke a lil but it's overall fine
Yk this laptop is annoying the piss outta me
Constantly having weird connection issues on wifi
My screen and randomly flickering
It doesn't like if I tab put of a game
Is your game just in full screen?
Cause that just happens if you tab out while in full screen
i should clarify when i say it doesnt like when i tab out. i mean it puts any application i have open in the top left but when i go to fullscreen it it goes to the middle then i have to hit fullscreen again for it to actually go into full screen
full screen windowed
Is it only in games when you tab out? How long does it last
no it does it even if i have discord full screen
and as long as something isnt completely in windowed mode it will always do it and its annoying af
i kept thinking oh its a windows 11 thing because my previous laptop which used windows 10 didnt have the issue but this does. but then i remembered my dads pc doesnt have this issue either
If you can I’d try to contact Asus’s warranty cause I’m sure your laptop would’ve come with it
Yeah no its not a Win 11 thing
good thing rn is im not really using this thing for gaming that much
since i have weird connection issues with this thing
im mainly using it for reading since my previous laptop kicked the bucket
btw
if you intend on getting this laptop
dont expect much for battery life
it gave me an estimate at one point for like less than 3 hours
“I got a 4070 and 7940HX laptop””im using it for reading”😭
XD
i want to use it for gaming
but the last time i played on it my connection issues were so wack
ik its mostly down to my router
but when i had this thing on ethernet it would randomly switch to wifi
i made a new cable for that
i honestly just need to use this thing more for gaming because my biggest issue is i cant fucking see anything
too used to my dads setup with the 43 inch tvs
yk ever since i switched the gpu to eco mode to basically force it to use the igpu amds software has been bugging me to update the drivers on the igpu XD
Yeah should def try that
im only using it for reading and the occasional yt video its not like im gonna game on this igpu XD
ill do it later
i just dont feel like doing it rn
i honestly have a stupid idea on why it may have done it
because its not a constant thing
i have a feeling i may have slightly hit the screen with my foot a couple of days ago
because since i brought it into my room i dont have a desk for it so it sits on my bed
well at one point i decided to watch something on my phone and put the laptop to the foot of my bed
and i may have accidentally hit it when moving my leg
but imma put it to the igpu thing
ive now switched it to optimized
so it will switch between the igpu and the 4070 when needed
i still find it funny that this thing takes up a smaller footprint compared to my previous laptop despite having a bigger screen
Yeah thats cool
Speaking of, i need to get a new case, mines hella broken
Pcpartpicker shows it at like $50 somewhere else
Has anyone looked at the pre-built PC setups Costco has? I always see them and they seem reasonably priced. I am just not sure if their specs are good or if they are mid setups
i actually really like this case ive heard good things about it
Can you send a link to them? I’m sure they vary location to location
I just need something cheap that looks nice and isnt falling apart
XD
I have a PowerSpec case and its such a piece of junk
I got it for $40 on craigslist and its missing a foot to it falls over, the drive cage bent so its out and now its awful
The config is strange on this one
A 14700F to have a 4060 is weird
The config/price on here seems good though
@sturdy loom i know you’re looking at prebuilts but would you be into potentially building it yourself? You’d save money over the fee prebuilt manufacturers add for building and their cheaping out in certain places
There’s plenty of guides online but if you don’t feel comfortable doing that i totally get it
I’ve considered building it myself, I’ve done a decent amount of research. I think the convenience of a prebuilt is swaying me a tad bit.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
i did my thing XD
You should start asking questions first
i purely did it because i wanted to see what i could spec for that price wasnt ment for them
What kinds of games do you play/want to play?
Do you plan to stream or record?
What resolution will you play at?
Other than gaming what do you plan to do?
But it was my school laptop (used a lot of Autodesk product) but it’s like 5 years old and the storage sucks ass
Baldurs gate, modded Minecraft, Overwatch possibly. I have an Xbox series X too and that’s what I game on the most I’d say. So also another reason I’ve been debating if the money is worth spending
Honestly nowadays, unless you’re going Nintendo Switch, console isn’t worth the price
No plans to stream/record atm, possibly continue using autodesk items.
Okie, give me a bit and i can try to get you something going
Btw what’s your budget?
And do you need wifi?
In the $1200 range, wifi or I could connect to Ethernet
Okie cause ethernet can save a bit on a motherboard
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
bam only like 10$ more than the previous one XD
1136$
damn the 7700x is cheap af rn
210$
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, GeForce RTX 4070, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
Minecraft runs on OpenGL
ok?
Nvidia runs way better on OpenGL
its a 7800xt vs a 4070 its not gonna be such a huge difference that it would make the gameplay not enjoyable considering how powerful the cards are
granted
i dont play minecraft
so i wouldnt know
Thank you! My laptop has been having some weird issues, I put it through a lot for school. Could be driver issues, but it’s also 5 years old running 100Kmb+ revit files almost every day for 2 years.
if its better than go for it
If there’s not much of a different I’d say the 4070 cause like i said, OpenGL on AMD isn’t the best
She’s a powerhouse though! She’s doing her best
what res are they playing at
@sturdy loom ?
I didn’t notice they didn’t replay to that
i have an idea
me neither hence why i asked
Just why I’m considering switching to PC set up
What resolution?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, GeForce RTX 4070, Fractal Design Pop Air ATX Mid Tower
For the pc? I don’t have a preference really, whatever is standard or unnecessarily high
There’s 1080P, 1440P, and 4K
I recommend 1080P personally unless apps you use are a little cramped them I’d recommend 1440P
whats the resoultion of your screen
I think 1080P is what I have now, so I’d probs rolls with that
Hell yeah
Here me out
If I'm able to somehow disable like half of my cpu cores and I still raise the powerlimit do you think I can get more than 4.5ghz all core?
Rate my computer
i7-7700, 32GB ram at 2400 but they run at 2400 and a GTX 650 Ti 1GB
It's so cursed
depends on the criteria
the only "bad" part of it is the gpu
being that you arent playing any super demanding games and dont really care about going to max settings the 7700 is fine unless you want to use windows 11
I dont want to use windows 11 but sadly ill have to
GTX 650 Ti is enough for Minecraft tho!
lol
It only drops a lot when im playing lethal company alone 🤣
With they at least let you lower your resolution without changing your desktop resoltuion
The GTX 650 Ti good enough to edit 720p 60fps video in Premiere Pro! Who knew!
ummmm
FSR 4.0 is gonna be ai based
and this is according to jack huynh, senior VP and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Business Group at AMD
Isn't FSR already?
Is that not how all the upscalers work?
Also what's wrong with upscalers being AI based? Imo, that's one of the better uses of AI
never said anything was wrong with that
also no they were AI based
werent****
nvidias DLSS was
but in order to get fsr to market faster they didnt make it ai based
well i should say
maybe fsr 3.0 since it used frame generation
not quite sure but jack huynh said FSR 4.0 will use AI algorithms more extensively. because before they used filters.
there are people who know more about this than i do i simply just read an article that caught my eye
oh also AMD is going to be combining their gpu architectures again under the UDNA name. back in 2019/2020 depending on how you want to look at it ill use 2020 for this because thats what the article says. i say 2019/2020 because in 2019 is when RDNA 1 came out ie the RX 5000 series of gaming gpus but CDNA came out in 2020 with the MI 100 gpu.
so this will basically be kinda like how GCN was. GCN being the architecture that powered amd gpus from 2012 up until the Radeon VII came out
while making improvements throughout its life span
this was also comfirmed by Jack Huynh. so its not a rumor
i say "also comfirmed" as if i heard it somewhere else before he said it. stupid me and my poor wording he was the only one ive heard it from
GTX 800 series was on the same architecture as 600 and 700 right?
There was no 800 series
Yeah there was
Damn them my memory is off
It was laptop only
Oh you are looking at laptop
Thought you were referring to desktop
They are on the same Kepler architecture as the 700 series
Actually anytime I look it gives me a different answer
Fun
Fuck it its old I'm not gonna waste my brain power on it trying to understand it when I'm lacking brain power rn
They’re just cheaper than like 900 series laptops and I dont need a lot of power from a laptop so they caught me eye
lol yk what its referring to right? XD
thinking about it thats more ram than my 4070 in my laptop XD
😦
so hear me out
if this thing could draw more power wouldnt it perform better than the 4060ti XD
damn the 4060ti clocks like a full 1GHz faster than the 4070 mobile XD
NANI
the 4070 mobile is pcie 4.0 x16 while the 4060ti desktop is pcie 4.0 x8 XD
the 4060ti also apparently uses faster vram which i was not aware of
correction the clock speeds i was looking at is the 4070 mobile at 80w
so in reality the actual clockspeed difference is going to be like 600-700MHz depending on if the 4060ti has a manual overclock on it
idk why i said manual overclock the gpu is naturally gonna boost on its own depending on power limit, temperature and voltage
Conclusion, both kinda suck 🤣
Oh god
Lethal at 720 on the 630 gets about 30 FPS
I think a hamster powered gpu would be faster than that HD 7470 XD
Hopefully I can find a low enough resolution to keep recording 😅 I already made a video and it'd feel awkward
Lol
Yk I saw an article a couple of days ago of biostar releasing a new rx 580 XD
oh god
its the poopy rx 580
I've been thinking about something like this
I'd even be fine with a GTX 700-900 series honestly
My computer can't do a GPU now
The case is fucked and I'm done spending money on the actual computer
what do they mean dominate the mid-range market
that gpu is actually 1 month away from being 6 years old
very much was because amd wasnt making high end gpus at the time
If they were the 580 would still be midranged?
i just dont understand how they will "dominate the mid-range market" with a gpu thats 6 years old
yes
the 580 was a good value card did it compete with nvidias high end at the time. no it didnt it competed in the mid-range which was fine
another issue i have with this new biostar card is its not a normal rx 580
its the rx 580 2048sp
which is a cut down version of the rx 580
GTX 1070m is still good enough for gaming nowadays right?
I’m not really playing new AAA games and if I did I’m fine with low cause that looks really good on new games
No idea
oh wow
mem clock has to be falsey reported on the mobile
8GHz is insane if true
but based on the somethings missing + # of samples being so off I'm assuming it's just worng
The memory clock specifically?
Ahh yeah that makes more sense 😅
Also turns out that old Minecraft is broken on Intel drivers so to play like Minecraft 1.7 I need to install my Radeon HD 7470 that I have only cause it came in that Dell that stopped working
Gtx 1080ti
If you’ve had a 1080 Ti thats just cheating 🤣
3060TI that I am very grateful I got for free
Yoo
oh i don’t have a liquid cooled vega 64 haha
but my radeon 7900 xtx is putting in work rn
oh you are referring to a gpu we have had. ummmmm rx 6800xt
Lol
My goat is the laptop i had last year that i want to find agaib
MSI GE something 70E i think
It was my baby
My best would be my ryzen 5 5600. My favorite would probably be the 1ghz Intel single core I had from 1999 to 2010 lmao
i7 7700hq
my best cpu is the cpu in my current laptop
but the 7700HQ was the one i had for the longest. i personally had it for like 4 years but the laptop is a bit older than that because it used to be my uncles
Gtx 1060
6gb
Hell yeah!
I had a 970M for a bit and the 3GB was annoying cause alot of games needed 4GB, so in Big Team Battle on Halo Infinite a lot of like character/tree texture wouldn't load right lol
I found my dream laptop
Still supported with an i7-8750H (6-Core, 12-Thread), GTX 1070M, and 32GB of RAM
AND she's a chonky laptop
I love chonky gaming laptops
Thin gaming laptops feel illegal
17.3" 3840x2160 panel at 120Hz is INSANE
But I'd just scale it down to 1080 cause honestly thats fine for the size lol
chonky laptops better because more ports nodders
Also easier to repair
All the above
I know on some new laptops they prioritize thinness over being able to replace ram or ssd
Also better cooling cause you can have insane fans
even on some thicker gaming laptops half the ram comes soldered to the motherboard
you may actually find it on some cheaper gaming laptops because its simply cheaper to do it like that
i5-2500K coming in so I can use the Dell yay!
I’d say on my big thing with the i7-7700 and that 32gb but im ashamed of it cause how ugly the case is cause it brokey
RX 570 on the way!

An insane upgrade too
Current GTA 5 gets like 25 fps at like .65 of 720p, Minecraft on lower settings 1080p gets like 50 and is usually gpu bound, and i opened indigo park and it got like 15-20 fps on the actual lowest wIth FXAA
I’ll post update how the 570 runs some games when I get it
It came in and 8 hours later i issued a refund lol

I'm thinking about getting a GTX 780
Lets hope when I order that (probably monday) that it actually works
The issue with the RX 570 was the drivers refused to install and I've never had issues with Nvidia's drivers
Guys take it from me. Don’t render videos on a 2012 i5
This is a 48 minute video
720P 60FPS
Clearly you needed the i3 from 2012 XD
If I do a lot of video rendering but also gaming should I go for the Ryzen 7 5800X or the Ryzen 7 5700X3D?
I would say 5800x
Because of higher core clocks
But you may have to do more research
Rendering is multi core right?
Yeah
If it is then go with the 5800x because the cores are going to boost higher
Oh well you answered that while I was typing XD
Do you think ram speed matters?
It does apparently
Ugh, i might have to go AM5
But also the 14600K is in consideration
At that price
Cause Vegas does use e cores apparently
Make sure you read the fine print of intels supported ram speeds
You can still run it at higher speeds
If you can’t run DDR5 at a fast enough speed for it to be worth that’d be such bullshit
For double the price, which honestly I am still thinking about that 5800X
$50 vs $100
For ram
Then the boards and cpus are way more
Ugh, why are computers so complicated
What I'm saying when I'm referring to this is the ddr5 speeds I saw this when the intel cpu breaking was super big. That they say ddr5 5200 but if you were using 4 dims it was like 4400
Ordered a GTX 780 today!
I ordered it at the right time! Yesterday it started shipping and I can't wait. My poor current card is having issues!
I'm editing and the entire screen went black and like had artifact lines for a second then came back
I'm like.... not too confident in this to keep working for much longer ^v^
The framerate when just playing a 720P60 video back at 1/4 res is so bad I stare at the timeline instead of the video
That lag could be my CPU in which case, ouch. a i7-3770K is $40
Lol
Non-K is $25! I’ll ask about getting that (man I really need a job)
i7-3770 ordered!!
She’s here
nice
Its amazing
spit on that thang (im not sorry)
Honestly, great fans
Overpriced
Ryzen 9000X3D November 7th
I guess I can say that I am a fan
Not gonna argue on that. Don’t they have like a $60 cooler thats still good and reliable?

they are all good and reliable all it is is a heatsink with a fan the only thing that can be unreliable about it is the fan
Im gonna try to get that Hyper 212 in the next computer i make if i still keep it. Its a nice little cooler
i think they do have a cheaper cooler but i rather just get a thermalright cooler i forget which one it is but its cheaper its like 30$ and performs better than 60$ coolers form noctua
found it
This is the one I got at a BestBuy a while ago for that i7-7700 that I used for like 2 months lol
34$ btw
I already have this one though
this cooler easily is the most volatile in price
it goes up and down in price so much
i think ive seen it go for 15$
i dont remember
but
Does it really matter though?
I mean the price changing, since I already have it.
I’m thinking about like a i5-12600KF or something in that range on my next PC. Or getting like an older MSI Laptop cause I love those
the thing i do like that noctua does
is if you have proof of purchase you can get a newer mounting kit for newer sockets on older coolers
for free btw
Yeah that is pretty nice
still too much for a damn air cooler but hey its something
Yeah way too much. For like $86 you can get Corsair’s 240mm AIO
this is only 107$
this is 120$
and performs a good bit worse than the LF3
LF3?
but the air cooler is lower maintenance
liquid freezer 3
its the name of that aio
i just didnt feel like typing it everytime
me=lazy
XD
I wanna get like this. It’s be like a year or so of having it, but I do also just want a laptop. And a GTX 1070 is more than enough for me! Hell I’m fine with my 780
lol
my previous laptop was similar to this
6 Cores is gonna be a nice upgrade, and 12 to 32 is a nice ram upgrade
forget the exact model i just know is was a msi stealth
MSI my beloved
That GTX 765M laptop and the 970M laptop I had were both MSI and they were amazing. I wanna rebuy that GTX 765M one some day again just to have it lol
lol
Your laptop would be amazing fir editing
fuck in my house we still have those old tvs that weighed like 200 pounds
My i5-2500 is struggling cause its 4 Core and 4 Threads aren’t that amazing for editing. Otherwise its fine
I do have that i7-3770 coming tomorrow hopefully and that’ll be amazing to have
is it 4 core 8 thread?
The i7? Yes
ahhhh
cant wait till november
Whys that?
ryzen 9000X3D
Are you going to get one?
no im just interested
being that ryzen 9000 hasnt been selling well
i wonder how the X3D chips will change things
9600X, 9700X, and 9900X look nice than their 7000 counterparts
my favorite number is 8
Also don’t ask why, but the 9 in front feels more feminine LMAO
IDFK LMAO
ahahaha
I also love the white Corsair 4000D cause in my brain it fits that vibe of the 9600X-9900X
clearly what you want is this
yk
something ive never understood
being that i look at things a little differently
i remember when steve from GN was talking about case innovation when reviewing a case at one point this was like a year or 2 ago
That does look cool, but I’m an under the desk to the left girlie lol. If I ever have it on my desk maybe
This is my desk.
Just minus the right monitor cause that broke the other day
and in my head i was saying. "what do you mean case innovation what is there to innovate its a box with holes in it that you put your pc parts in"
I also don’t have discord on my PC anymore
you see my dads pc is to the right of him
which almost caused an issue because of the hdmi ports on the tvs hes using are on the left of the tvs
He just stares at it, doesn’t even do anything on it😂
so the hdmi cords were almost not long enough
lol
Honestly a TV setup sounds sick
Would not do my back any favours though lol. When I’m on a couch I mess up my back cause I sit all comfy and it’s usually is weird positions
Oh, I do like that one a lot.
he just uses 2 43 inch smart tvs
This case was one of my favourites
ive seen this one
arent they expensive
Holy. I only haves 1 24 inch (16:10) and that sometimes feels like a lot.
I don’t remember. I don’t think you can get it anymore, just knockoffs. The original was like in 2018.
i wonder if i have a picture of his setup
stupid me
i was wondering why i cant find the photo
im looking way too far back in my photos
i found a photo
but its messy
WAIT
i have an s24
with that stupid advanced intelligence
i can erase shit
give me a second
oh god that was bad
.
found a different photo with the lights off XD
Oh lord lmao.
This is my little tech stache
All of it works, and I really need to sell it cause its a lot
The i5-6500 is on the H110 board with the Hyper 212 and 32Gb of GSKILL Ripjaws
And the i7-7700 is on the H270
And my little old iPhone 5C i was on for a bit this year cause it was so cheap
what you cant see is the pc the chair is blocking it
Dark mode looks so weird lol
Oh I’m just a light mode girlie
lol
Guys I was wrong, the 780 did nothing for video editing LMAO (btw this is not rendering)
i7-3770 arrived!!
@dense gale ummm walmart has a good deal on a 7800x3d
399$
Also really good deal on a 4070
580$ for a pny 4070 is what I could find on pcpartpicker but at Walmart it was 499
Oh cool
The i7 is so far amazing for video editing! Sadly 12GB ram isn't :( it's completely full and Vegas keeps freezing for a second then playing again
Ooof
Limiting Vegas to 200MB so it mainly uses CPU and GPU and way less ram "helps"
Just not too much
Oh yeah I've eseen that
Omg that's the headset I have!
The mic sucks LMAO
Headphone part is good though!
Too bad the 4060ti was labeled wrong
When I say it is labeled wrong it says it's a 16gb card for 409$
They only have 8gb cards
The worst deal they have was on the intel cpus
Told ya
Nah
You only said the Intel cpus were a bad deal. The 14700K is a good price and nothing about the 7800X3D was mentioned
@dense gale
So there is no 14700k in that photo
There is a 14900k for 580$ which can found for 442$. Then there is the 14600k for 309$ which can found for 254$
So yeah...
I love when Vegas just decides it wants to use all my CPU
I'm just playing it back to do another edit pass and it's a nightmare
I love how spiky this all is while rendering
I'm watching the Gamers Nexus review for the Intel U9 285K and wow, what a disaster!
oh yeah
i heard meh stuff about it
apparently
i will say this now
that it may be a software issue
i should go back and make sure im getting that correct but i wont delve too much into that since yall dont like when i talk about things of that nature
i just want to see the ryzen 9000X3D chips already
You're fine to, just make sure it's accurate. I think the Issue was it was based off rumors or something.
