i’ve found that i’m most comfortable with my mouse pointing to the left slightly as it allows for my forearm to rest properly. is this a bad habit that will hurt me in the long run, or is this ok to keep doing.

also for positioning of wrist/pinky, should the wrist be sort of gliding on top of the mat or firmly planted. for the pinky should it be clawed on to the side or sort of hovering over the mousepad

As for your question on should it be hovering or gliding depends on scenario. The amount of hovering for me is just enough to lift the weight of my arm and wrist while still leaving it on the pad when tracking.

Yes but certain scenarios require a sort of pick up and plant

Being new you should start out watching mattyows videos how to static pasu and control tracking just to begin with I would watch the rest as well except the high scores. Most of what you need is time to get used to the mouse but the voltaic benchmarks especially the older stuff is a good place to start for now and playing your game is probably even more useful till you get the hang of using the mouse. But it would definitely speed things up doing both.
