quick background: used to play a lot of CS around 2015/2016, stopped playing for a while and got back to playing fps games recently. Lot of things changed since, I stopped palm gripping because it didn't feel natural anymore. Playing around a bit, I gravitated towards fingertip since I noticed that when casually browsing, fingertip was the way I naturally gripped the mouse. While this causes me no issue in tracking scenarios I noticed that I really struggle with static.
Now, this is where I might start to overthink it a bit, but I am set on developing good technique before anything else. How much are my fingers supposed to engage during the flicking process? In static you have the flicking portion which is supposed to be arm based and then you have the correction, which is usually done with the wrist, so are the fingers there to fine tune? Or should I use my fingers to micro correct after a flick instead? I find it hard to balance 3 actual pivot point (shoulder, wrist and fingers) when flicking, this always causes me to over or under correct the target. Is there a definite way to balance this or is this just trial and error until I find what suits me?
What I've tried to do in the past couple of days is the following:
- Tried to lock my wrist. This usually leads to over flicks.
- Tried locking my fingers. This feels stable but less accurate somehow
- Using everything at once, leaving the wrist loose and using the fingers, this leads to inconsistencies since sometimes I tend to flick with the fingers
I'd like to hear what you think since this is something I don't see discussed online and it's the only thing I am struggling to figure out by myself. I even tried watching some vods but it is really difficult to distinguish between a claw and a fingertip from the mouse cams.
I play on 43 cm/360, crawled fingers.
