#How to make my aim training actually translate to games? (TLDR at the bottom)

Hey everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice on how to make my aim training more effective and better aligned with my goals.

I’ve been playing FPS games casually for years, but I was never a strong aimer. About a month ago, I decided to take aim training seriously and started using Kovaaks — I’ve got around 43 hrs so far. When I started, I was completely unranked (couldn’t even hit Iron), and now I’m Gold in most scenarios, a few close to Platinum, and high-Silver in static click. In the Viscose benchmarks, I’m mostly Penguin/Fox, a few Mammoth, some near Orca.

I’ve mainly been running VDIM, and I feel like it’s helped a lot inside Kovaaks — my scores have gone up noticeably — but while I have noticed some improvement in actual games, it does not feel like my aim has improved at the same rate that my scores would make one think. My main FPS right now is The Finals, but I also play Fortnite, Overwatch, and might pick up Valorant,CS, CoD, or Battlefield again.

My setup isn’t an issue (500Hz OLED, G Pro Superlight, Wallhack SP004, 9800X3D + 5090 PC).

My goal is simple: I want well-rounded, transferable aim that feels consistent and reliable across any shooter — not just good aim trainer scores.

I completely understand that improvement takes time, and I’m willing to put that time in. I just want to make sure I’m putting it into the right things so that my effort actually translates into noticeable improvement in games.

So I guess my main question is:
Given where I’m at now, what’s the best way to make my aim training translate better to real gameplay while still improving fundamentals in Kovaaks?

TL;DR: Started unranked, now Gold+ with 43 hrs in Kovaaks. VDIM has helped inside the trainer but not much in actual games. Want advice on how to train so progress actually transfers across FPS titles.

You could probably work on your weaknesses in Viscose Benchmarks (like get it to Penguin Complete). Like balance out the weaknesses there more for better overall Mouse Control in general. Then check later on VT Benchmarks after you rounded out your Viscose Benchmarks.

In general, Viscose Benchmarks are more applicable to games, but either way, you are still overall improving your Mouse Control (which is really the use of Arm + Wrist + Fingers used together to move the crosshair where you want to on the screen). So Mouse Control is always applicable to games and such.

Like essentially, all stuff like VDIM and Viscose Benchmarks are really doing, is giving you a way to improve your Mouse Control by isolating specific aspects of aim, to have a quick feedback loop that allows you to learn those specific skills faster. Mouse Control is really just the ability to control your mouse to move your crosshair where you want to in a game, that's kinda all. It's not gonna give you like better game sense in a game, you'd need to learn things like positioning and game sense separately in the actual game.

#

So say in The Finals, it has a lot of tracking type situations, are you having trouble tracking targets ingame? Like if you went from Unranked Tracking to Gold Tracking, it should be a pretty big difference in The Finals. Like at least to me, it was really noticeable ingame (I play The Finals as well, and I also went from Unranked Precise / Reactive Tracking to Gold lol).

#

Like if you went from Unranked Tracking to Gold Tracking, then in The Finals, you can try using AKM and see if it's a lot easier to get kills with it than before. You should be able to track people way easier and kill them a lot easier. But Medium with AKM in The Finals is like, put yourself in a position where the aim actually matters.

Cause for me, cause my aim got a lot better (compared to Unranked), I noticed I started doing dumb things like taking all kinds of bad fights, not using positioning properly, etc etc, so even if I could get the kill, I'd just die soon after lol. But mix that with good positioning and good game sense, then Unranked vs Gold Tracking means you can get a lot of free kills with AKM (btw, AKM is just a simple example, can use any other tracking type gun in The Finals to compare, but AKM is a starter gun in The Finals, so everyone gets it for free).

#

Also, in The Finals, I usually first go to the practice range and like warm up doing the gauntlet thing, where you kill a bunch of bots but they can shoot back, and I use various different guns there to warm up the mouse control + recoil control and such for the different types of guns I'm gonna use. After that, I go into matches.

Oh, also, another way to look at VT ranks and such, the higher rank you are, the more consistent your aim can be. The higher the rank, the more raw Mouse Control you have, and the more consistent your aim can be. So say, at higher ranks, your worst day for aim can still be much better than your best day at a much lower rank.
