#Is my mouse grip wrong?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Don't overthink it, hold the mouse however it is comfortable for you.
honestly ive heard this too many times, nothing comfortable atm
I mean, if you grab the mouse--what does your hand naturally want to do? I would start there...if you are really feeling uncomfortable all the time it could just be the mouse shape is not for you.
I've tried multiple mice, big and small, when i browse on desktop i do a fingertip, and when in game i grab it like my usual mouse grip, which is bad as i said
Define uncomfortable for me. Does it feel awkward to use or are you just not performing like you think you should? You talked about your fingers slipping but it could just be a tension issue.
Okay so in detail pinky just floats, ring finger wraps around the mouse and slips and i have to readjust it a lot
Readjusting is not that much of a problem in my opinion, a lot of people reset themselves mid scenario especially during a high intensity session.
Okay but i readjust it because it's slipping away and it can happen even during gunfights, and i grip it hard just because of this reason
Sounds to me like a tension issue honestly. I know you said you are sick of the advice but "grab and play" is really all there is to it for most people.
There are probably some voltaic write-ups for mouse grips and tension. I would give those a read if possible. Otherwise, I would try and not worry so much about it and just work with whatever grip is most comfortable for yourself (even if you do need to reset / deal with slippage).
So you say just don't grab the mouse as hard?
Well, you could be grabbing it too light and causing it to float out of your natural grip or you could be death gripping it and exhausting yourself which causes your hand to naturally adjust itself out of that discomfort. There are resources for tension management you can read on here and, likely, on youtube as well. I would start there to be honest.
I can't find it anymore but there used to be an in-depth read on tension management by one of the VT members.
Okay i will try that for now, i will tell you if it is any help, thank you for replying either way
To me, it just looks like your mouse is too small for how you're trying to hold it. There are a lot of mice that are shaped almost identically to yours, if you use a tool to help you find and compare mouse shapes I reckon it wouldn't be too difficult to find a mouse just slightly longer than your current one so that you can grip it a little more confidently.
If you are having issues with fingers slipping about, you might also consider grip tape for your mouse. As long as you don't have egregious sweat issues they should help remedy issues with your fingers not having enough grip to comfortably hold the mouse without squeezing.
i mean i have like 18.5 9.5
grip tape would work if i used a normal grip, although i tried playing deathadder since i also came to the conclusion that the mouse might be small but still it doesnt feel good
Right, the griptape is more-so a solution after you've fixed the whole small mouse issue. Personally, my hands are definitely not big enough to wrap around the entire mouse and still be touching the pad with my palm like is shown in your picture, and my mouse is on the smaller side of things too. The size of your mouse compared to your hand makes your mouse look like a cheap office mouse by comparison lol
haha well I the g pro might be small but i as i said I've also tried the deathadder shape and it's not good, although i used it before the g pro too it felt normal back then, but yeah when i try to grip my mouse "normally" it feels like my mouse is gonna fly i swipe too hard, ill send some pics with the deathadder to see the comparison
okay so first 2 pics are like my default grip like with the g pro, and pinky is supported.
Second 2 pics are a normal palm-claw where it feels like it's going to fly away
but the first grip became uncomfortable, and trying to figure if the second grip is wrong somehow
In the 1st picture, is your palm still at the bottom of the mouse where it would touch the mousepad if you set your hand down without the fingers moving from where they are?
oh so you are saying like my palm is too high up
right?
and also no it wouldnt touch the pad no
Oh ok, so now that leads me to wonder: Is your wrist floating when you apply your hand to the desk?
well in the 1st picture not really, In the second one it does
3rd and 4th i meant it does
Oh! Well in that case, the reason you're having difficulty finding the right size of mouse while having issues with your grip is because if you apply that same grip to any mouse you will get the same result. The issue lies within the fact that you're just gripping your mouse too far forward, even if your wrist floating is a comfortable thing to you. You don't have to put your wrist on the desk, but you need to at least try shifting around your grip in multiple ways to where your fingers aren't toward the front face of the mouse at all, kind of like your 3rd and 4th pictures, but shift around your grip till you find something that feels comfortable to you. If you could, also tell me how you feel like it's slipping from your grip in the 3rd and 4th pictures.
i played around with a bit it feels okay for now, altough the thumb meat, hope you understand, keeps going under the mouse
on the side of the tip of your thumb? or the palm part of the thumb?
when i swipe to the left, it happens with the deathadder but doesn't with the g pro, and yes the palm part
I've watched a video just on the things you said just before i read your message
The elevation of your wrist/lower palm plays a massive role in the stability and accuracy of your aim.

Ah, ok. Well, you can either get used to that (unless it's getting your mouse stuck) or you can try positioning your grip so that that part of your palm beneath your thumb has slight pressure taken off the pad so that it glides along with the mouse instead of getting abrasively pushed beneath your mouse.
aha i think i understand so basically before my bottom palm wasn't in contact with the pad but wrist was, and that is the reason i put my fingers forward, but i get it now the palm should be just slightly grazing the mousepad i put too much weight on it, ill play around with it anyways
istg i think im autistic or something about these things, thank you for putting in the time to answer, helped me out really
xD no problem, hope it goes well for you.
so now ive played for a bit, aim is much better, do you think this mouse is too small or naw ? or i ill get used to it?
