#Bad habits of aiming?

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, what are the bad habits of aiming that people often talk about? Today while aim training, I focused on making my flicks more linear than the sloppy aim before and it feels AMAZING in both game (valorant) and aimlab. So what are the bad and possibly good habits of aiming? I'm counting not making unnecessary mouse movements as one.

  • Tensing up a lot / holding continuous tension in your arm. You want your arm always to be relaxed and only tense a little when necessary, like for generating speed (with flicking).

  • Focusing on the crosshair and not the target. You always want to keep your eyes on the target. There are some small occassions where looking at the crosshair will be a bit handier, but overall you benefit more from looking at the target.

  • Hyperfocusing your aim during gaming. Aiming is a subconscious, and not a conscious process. You cannot consciously force certain things to happen. Focus on the game and allow your hand-eye coordination to do its thing.

  • Being "smooth" during flicking scenarios. You are not training flicking this way and your flicks will be generally not-straight given that slower speed introduce more errors.

  • Being flicky when you need to be smooth and smooth when you need to have a bit more speed. "Smooth"- and "flicky"- aim have their places. Some people always try to force 1 specific aimstyle into everything, but that just doesn't work.

Overall I cannot think of any more

silly question here, but is it okay for the keyboard hand to be tensed up?

That would be basically be the equivalent of sitting in your chair and continuously tensing your legs.

You don't want to unnecessarily tense anything. Just relax.
