Its 4am rn but I'll write something brief. Skyrims main storyline isnt good and even fans will agree that the main story aint good, the combat sucks especially if ur just using a basic knight build since its just press mouse1 to do damage and its clunky and all u do is just trade damage with enemies. This is why the most fun playstyle ended up being stealth archer since its the only playstyle that isnt pure numbers game and actually requires decision making.
The open world is boring drab grey and looks mostly the same and when u do find a town there isn't really anything u can do except talk to the people and pick up props which is the only thing i can say is good but u could legit do the same thing in 2004 in hl2 so it isnt impressive for a 2011 game. The game from a technical perspective is shit and runs on a crappy engine which is broken and full of so many bugs and suffers from performance issues this isn't noticeable nowdays since the game was made in 2011 but is more apparent in newer bethesda titles.

Furthermore, stuff like the magic system is alot worse in skyrim compared to previous games like oblivion which had deeper rpg mechanics and the ability to make custom spells. People are only realizing now that Bethesda games are bad but in reality they have always been like this since skyrim and they've been rising the same formula.

to add to that, i really like games with a deep lore. to some extent witcher 3 and cb77 offer that, but skyrim and fallout series are still unmatched in the indirect story-telling imo. Like where did the dwemer disappear, theories of the player char being shor, little details like the akavir island no one has visited and stuff like that. Which arent told directly in the game, but are there to create a fuller story if you can decipher it

Skyrim players always bring up mods i feel like u can't really include mods as part of the discussion because this is user generated content that doesn't reflect the intended experience crafted by the developer. And what if u played on like the xbox 360 when the game released.
Don't get me wrong skyrim with mods is really cool, but this has led to Bethesda just making shitty half baked games and thinking oh yea they'll mod the game and fix it. Im glad you enjoy the game its personal preference at the end of the day, but i do think skyrim being a critically acclaimed game makes no sense since it has so many objective shortcomings.

However if people are reviewing games or recommending them mods do not represent a consistent experience because people have different modpacks and also once again the devs made base skyrim so it should be the base game that is analysed.
