yes, matchmaking is unfair, thats the way of grinding arenas, 3 stack pred playing against silver team which have no idea about arena, winning easily just holding angles and poking them
or you are 3 stack pred and playing against plat ranked but 3 good players and when you lose against them, you lose over -60 points, which means wasting your 5 wins in a row.

I have a question lads, I have been trying to get to diamond for the first time ever. Almost made it to plat 2 but I keep thinking if it means anything at all. I am quite an average gamer rn with 1.2 K/D and I mostly try to go for placements and wait for a lucky win to gain RP. Am I wasting time like this grinding ranked? i always recommend hollows match commentaries for players looking to improve their solo performance/mechanics
theres different things to work on if your goal is to improve in ranked games, but if youre struggling with solo capability (which is a fair assumption if youre struggling in plat) his content can be very very helpful

If you want to pursue ranked, that's still a fine way to go about it. That said, waiting entirely for last minute KP and just waiting for placement won't teach you all that much. My recommendation would be getting into fights. You'll get a feel more for how long a fight should last to avoid third parties, how to rotate out, and how to utilize swaps and abilities to get out fast after a wipe.

on a more serious level youre focusing on multiple components that you know need to be fixed and strictly correcting them - for example ive been playing a lot of arenas and there is a lot im missing being primarily a BR player. i immediately focused on dialing back my commited peeks, practiced nades in the range, and checked a good amount of content to see what meta concepts i may be missing (altho arenas meta is very simple rn)

Yeah, lots of games lately have had too much leniency when it comes to shot registration with high or fluctuation in ping. I remember when R6S launched and shots would still register on clients with 600+ ping, leading to like 3.5 seconds of delay from getting blasted behind cover.
That's just a product of games being a commodity for the lowest common denominator. Gotta work around terrible specs and internet to "make everything fair" aka "keep everyone playing to give us more money even if it means absolutely gutting the user experience".

so one last question before I go, here are my thoughts on what I am lacking right now, do you think they make sense: When I watch better players, they focus on dealing damage without taking any, instead of straight on 1v1ing enemies. I on the other hand just peek an enemy and start spraying and praying and whoever has better aim wins. So I will try to focus on minimizing the damage I take instead of landing more shots for now. I also intend to focus on the 40% rule where you keep 40% of your screen behind cover all the time.
Would that be a good start?

Avoiding damage is better than taking aim duels because you'll never be as clean and reactive as 0.6, so watch how Gibby players position themselves.
Gibby is a big and high priority target so pros have to play him carefully to keep supporting their team. They're most conscious about their surroundings and position.

Speaking of infrastructure, that's the one thing I wish more games would take advantage of. Battlefield as a series has gone downhill, but I loved their approach to hit detection because it's a hybrid system. Clients send their data to the server, who proceeds to check their own internal positions and if it doesn't line up it will reject the client.
So if there's mismatch due to client latency or jitter, there's only so much tolerance before the server itself will protect the other players from delayed data.
