Respawn went into how their matchmaking works. if you are a premade, it puts in you in a game based of the person with the highest hidden skill rating and then some. so this probably shouldn't be surprising since i'm 3stacking with my friends since i don't feel like doing solo trios

respawn is working on a new system that is adaptive and apparently features whatever machine learning algorithm to have higher quality matches

and instead of the "4 buckets" of players which feature a huge range of skill, it will be closer to a gradient, and to minimize queue times they have some sort of prediction thing going on for people who are incoming. idk it's weird, but according to where they tested it at, there was a large spike in people who averaged 1 kill per game before dying

more like you probably meet the minimum for the 4th bucket which is probably gold or platinum to pred skill range

idk how they determine what your skill is.

However, we can never make a match of 60 identical players. There will always be skill differences between players. When you get into a match, there is a 50/50 chance that you place in the lower half of the skill distribution within that match. This feeling of having a harder or easier match could emerge from changes in your relative ranking compared to opponents from match to match. Future matchmaking improvements aim to shrink the range of skills within a match, which should decrease this feeling of skill gaps.

I worded that poorly. incredibly fun gun mechanics and arguably best high ttk game on the market, but its stuck as a battle royale that needs a high pool of players for a match to occur and as such is more difficult to balance 60 players

Though I imagine it feels pretty good to be at the higher percentile of players who run into headless chickens more rather than a skilled opponent

and I come to realize it only now, I suppose that promise of a power fantasy is what made the first COD games so successful and why people come back because of the dominating skill streaks the player is rewarded with if they stomp a lobby
