yea my suggestion would be to not worry about it at all and instead try focusing on taking advantage of aim smoothing

that won't help you in long range but in cqc and close-midrange you can effectively negate recoil on targets, still or moving. Octane or bloodhound has longer effective range while stimmed or ulti'd, respectively, due to increased strafe speed. And it's easier on SMGs since faster strafe speed as well

That's much easier to do on controller, just due to the nature of analog sticks, especially with aim assist enabled. If it seems a bit hard at first, try focusing on counterstrafing.

there's a minimum speed you need to be turning for it to activate, so it has limited effective range and different guns having different strafe speeds can make it harder to always use

but overall it's improved my close range dramatically since it helped me focus on smooth tracking and get good at that before I even started aim training

that's where I learned how to do all my movement and a ton of my smooth tracking practice was from just murdering the dummies over and over. Your own movement is more than enough especially as octane to let you get the hang of smooth tracking

when you get ingame you'll have to practice counterstrafing opponents to get used to using it on moving targets but you can do it

only if you tie your "performance" to your skill. When it comes to aim assist, those are different. Players using aim assist might out perform those who don't, but they aren't better and never will be. They're just crutching a broken feature that doesn't transfer to other games and doesn't help them improve, it's no different than downloading an aimbot. Just because my performance goes up with it, it doesn't mean I actually got skill.

So you need to decide whether you care enough about your skill level to push yourself using controller without aim assist, or if you don't care about your aim skill at all until you swap to MNK whenever you are able. I think going without aim assist is much tougher these days because of rotational aim assist, but I still think it's possible to become really good on controller, if you care too, even with aim assist disabled.

Yea. All rotational aim assist really is is a % of an actual, honest to god aimbot. 40% on pc, 60% on console, 100% for legit aimbot. A single number in a config file.

Imo, I really value my aim skill, even though it's not that high it's something I spent a lot of time and practice on. So even before I came to PC, I wanted to get good on controller and turned aim assist off. But if you plan on moving to MNK once you can afford it, it might be better to just accept that your aim skill isn't your own and focus on game sense and other stuff that matters for being good in FPS games, and just leave aim assist enabled. Once you can afford a PC and move to MNK you can then hard focus on aim training and bringing your aim up.

I am on MNK and have been for 10 years. But when I was on console+controller back in the day, it was because I was a kid and couldn't afford a PC. Once I got old enough to work and save up enough for a real PC I swapped over to MNK because I hated aim assist

if I was ever gonna use controller again, idk maybe I fuck up my hand or something, I'd use gyro aiming + flick stick control scheme, though. That can be just as good as MNK with practice, and no aim assist needed. Sadly apex doesn't support it, nor does xbox as a console

I always have my forearm on the table, my vert tracking is pretty good. Do you have a sleeve? I found that it helps me immensely, especially since I have a skypad.

Otherwise I can't think of anything else than just practicing a ton of vert and diagonal tracking scenarios. For apex, you can download R5 apex and it has an aim trainer with a few scenarios like popcorn which I think are actually amazing for practicing that. Also has valk ult, and there was at least one more. That might be better if you learn to do it in Apex specific scenario, and focus on trying to take advantage of recoil smoothing at the same time

other thing is aim assist - it's known that it's overtuned and out performing what humans are capable of for a long time, but they just didn't address it and now it's at the point where nearly all MNK players have swapped to controller because they're non-competitive. Only super try hard MNK players are left, it's like 90% controller players in PC lobbies. And consoles can still join PC lobbies and keep their 0.6 aim assist.
