Yes, you're correct it is quite uncomfortable especially for newer players to understand what to do in said situation. Though there's a fix, if you turn off ball cam, you'll see a circle on the floor, the circle gets smaller the closer the ball is too the floor to determine when it will hit the ground. You can use this mechanism to see both the opponent and know where the ball is. This is what's frequently used to be able to make the next play. But, if you're more advanced, you can play without even seeing the indicator and can just play off of gamesense and sound, knowing when to jump and how to take advantage of a play and give you (your team), possesion.

Play with a purpose, that's the case for anything in life. You want to learn something, learn it. Play the game and analyze your gameplay, do freeplay. But, what will have the biggest impact on your game if you truly seek to test yourself to improve at a speedy rate, play 1's, 2's and 3's, learn the modes and watch high-end gameplay. Remove the toxicity traits or the "It's their fault", but rather seek to fix the mistakes YOU hold. It becomes a matter of not caring about dropping rank, because your rank is insignificant. Your rank is an indication of your skill, or so they say, if you don't fail first, you will never succeed. You just hit GC for the first time? Great keep playing, get that game sense too improve, don't stop your progress and stop playing the mode simply because you're scared too lose the rank, but seek too exceed that rank.

No, you aren't bad just new. And to a technicality nobody is actually trash, everybody that is in the rank they're in are in it because of experience, time and practice. So nobody can truly be called trash! (Until you get into 1900 lobbies), but brother I would suggest for you to play 1's and 2's. Play freeplay/custom training and learn the movement of the ball and your car. Watch videos of high level gameplay, but for a silver, simply practicing and attaining that gamesense will receive an improvement without any form of coaching.

Ah, I don’t know much about diamond it’s been a while, but I would focus more on car control, getting meaningful touches and stuff like that, just playing off peoples mistakes will get you through diamond pretty quick, and fast aerials, I had a friend a couple years ago that go through diamond within a few months of playing and he couldn’t hit the ball in the air at all. Just being consistent and controlling the ball and forcing opponent mistakes will get you far. I’m Gc2 and my air mechs are diabolically bad

If your over-reliant on the coach it means you didn't understand one single thing and is just doing what the coach is telling you to do, and there is no problem asking for help many times bc thats how you can learn, we are adaptable creatures so if we can learn the main way we could figure out the branches on ourselves.
