It’s possible. Take construction for example. There’s hands on experience and there’s school experience. Hands on experience is a SSL coaching a SSL and school experience is a bronze coaching SSL. Both may have slightly different points but achieve the same result in the end and have an understanding of their craft

wait until the miss a shot and then capitalize

There isn't much point going to fancy mechs until like c3+ so I would suggest practice your shooting and probably position yourself to always support your tm8 and also adapt to your tm8s playstyle for example if they are aggressive play more passive vice versa
